Tesla Roadsters are expected to be on hand at the events.
It's like a car show with no muscle cars

All around the country, automotive enthusiasts come together on weekends throughout the year to show off their vehicles. Generally, these car shows feature healthy doses of sports cans and old school muscle.
The Sierra Club has a different kind of car show in mind. Rather than being a festival of fuel swilling muscle cars or corner-carving exotics, the Sierra Club is hosting a show of green vehicles with plug-in hybrids and full EVs being the draw.

The Sierra Club is staging the events all around the country in major cities and calling it National Plug-In Car Day. The goal is to get owners of plug-in cars together so that the public can be educated and potential EV owners can talk to owners and see what the cars are like to live with in the real world.

Along with the Sierra Club, Plug-in America and the Electric Auto Association are also sponsoring the events. The type of events will vary from city to city, but the cities involved are among some of the largest in the country. Major cities where events will be held include San Francisco, Santa Monica, NYC, Austin, Denver, Detroit, Honolulu, and many others. Overall, there are 14 different cities participating in the official event.

Some of the cities will have large car show style gatherings, while others have ride and drive events hosted by manufacturers. The events will happen on and around the official National Plug in Day to be held on Sunday, October 16.
Vehicles like the Prius Plug-in, RAV4 EV, Tesla Roadsters and Model S cars, and others are expected at the events.

At first I thought it would be in one city

If it was held in one city it could take a Roadster almost a month to get there!! Well, I'm exaggerating but it would still need to stop for hours at a time to recharge. Really though people that own that car would probably pull it on a trailer with a huge gas guzzling truck to get to their destination.

My thoughts exactly.

And how many will be there since sales have not been to robust.

Maybe they will get together to console themselves on buying those things!

I take it you do not own a Roadster? I drove mine last month across TN and back 510 miles each way. Yes it took 24 hours for a leg but I was able to sleep for 7 of those charging hours. I plan on participating in both the Plug-in events in Knoxville 110 miles away, and Kingsport and can easily make both in a drive.

By the way I can drive those 200+ miles on $4 of AMERICAN made electricity. I will let others fund OPEC.

I'll be there

I'll be there commiserating with the other EV owners; It was an especially painful month last month; we took a weekend road trip that pushed me over the 1,200 miles I usually do each month - ended up costing me over $30 for that months electricity bill. Life's a bitch.

Remind me again how much electricity costs and how lovely it smells when you spill it on your feet at the gas pump.

How far was that road trip? It surely wasn't the 200-300 miles one way ones like we took back in college otherwise it would take more than a weekend in a plugin.

It was only a few hundred miles; overnight charge, nothing like a 500+ mile trip from the tip to the toe of England that these guys did http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/5628...

Good to know

This is a private event run by a private organization. For a moment I was worried the government was giving itself an undeserved pat on the back. Plug-ins, while ideal, have yet to mature.

Hold on there... Even if it is a lie or hype?
No, leave it to the private sector. Otherwise we will get the government raising awareness of how there are WMDs in certain countries or how great a company Solyndra is. (I know the WMDs is in ways a stretch because we need some gov't defense initiative IMO but I was trying to be non-partisan. I'm sure there are MANY other examples that people can come up with for both sides lol.)

Bring some horsepower!

There are plenty of examples of performance electric vehicles... If racers were to bring out their electrified rides to the show, it might raise interest among the general public. I would love to see an electric car (or motorcycle) burn-out contest!

I'd just once like to see a greenie from the sierra club go thank one of them for making their dreams come true.
