Hardware NVIDIA Delays Some, and Launches Some

Amid a flurry of delays, NVIDIA launches two new products

NVIDIA continues its recent trend of launch delays by making even more 11th-hour embargo shifts. The company pushed the launch dates of many of its products that were expected to launch yesterday into next week.

This includes NVIDIA's new GeForce 9800GTX graphics cards and the new nForce 780a chipset.

In place of the delayed products, NVIDIA yesterday launched its nForce 730a chipset and lifted the embargo off of the GeForce 9800 GX2 SLI. Some vendors also announced the nForce 750a chipset.

The nForce 730a is NVIDIA's newest low end chipset. The chipset's most notable feature is support for NVIDIA's new Hybrid SLI technology, which DailyTech reported last week is also delayed. The nForce 750a chipset falls into a similar market category, and also comes with Hybrid SLI support and integrated NVIDIA PureVideo HD.

GeForce 9800GX2 Quad SLI configuration also launched yesterday -- SLI for the dual-GPU GeForce. However, nagging driver issues bar the combination from reaching its full potential.

NVIDIA provided no official explanations for the launch delays. This is the company's third set of delays this month.

Meh, it's only a week. They probly just want to polish up the drivers some, it's not like the product's are MIA till next quarter.

Technically it will be next quarter if they don't launch by this coming Monday. April = Q2

wha?..., this whole article (long) is all about the GX2 not the GTX, and they only vaguely mention the thermals of the 9800GTX toward the end compared to the 8800GTX and GX2..., not worth the read

This is a full early review for the GeForce 9800 GTX. Tweaktown apparently has a really good source for getting Nvidia graphics cards early, as I also recall reading a GeForce 9600 GT review a good week ahead of it's release. Apparently these folks don't need to abide by the NDA's that Nvidia sets forth.

Small spoiler: They weren't too impressed with the performance results...

The GTX results were posted, but apparently the NDA watch has some power over a few sites... and not others.

Ya, The same goes for 8800GT. Fix these first.....then move on to the new stuff......Nvidia. Figure out how to smooth the game play. What good is 100FPS when it drops to 10 for no apparent reason. Kinda like that graph in the Anandtech 9800 quad SLI review.....all over the place.

So far I don't see a problem playing games, but my old 6800GT played better streaming video off the internet. I can't play off the Fox site half the time and when I go for HD content it's pitiful, but it worked with the AGP 6800GT before I upgraded.

Two steps forward, one driver back I guess

I'm currently on my old rig with the same video card you had (6800GT). I have been waiting for this new product launch to rebuild the system and unfortunately we are seeing on both the CPU and GPU fronts what lack of competition does...

It is really sad, I upgrade maybe once every 3-4 years and I just got unlucky with both AMD and ATI missing left and right.

But Anandtech admitted that the results were skewed and needed revisiting.

When you are getting a 15% performance increase from overclocking two quad cores .8GHz, then it is not the processors speaking, its a bottleneck.

Maybe drivers can fix that, maybe not.

Should remove the 9800GTX or replace with something like 'G92 Quad SLI', as the way it is now is clearly inaccurate/misleading. 9800GTX will release next week and will only be able to achieve Tri-SLI configurations.
