NVIDIA introduces the nForce 680i into the sub-$200 price territory
NVIDIA today announced its nForce 680i LT SLI MCP
core-logic for the extreme gamer market sector. The new nForce 680i LT SLI
introduces nForce
680i SLI performance and some features at a sub-$200 price point. NVIDIA’s
nForce 680i LT SLI MCP slots in between the nForce 650i SLI and nForce 680i SLI
MCPs, which had a price difference of over $100.
NVIDIA nForce 680i LT-based motherboards will support refreshed 1333 MHz
front-side-bus endowed Intel Core 2 Duo processors, as well as all other
Core 2-family dual and quad core processors. NVIDIA claims the nForce 680i LT
SLI has “best-in-class processor and memory overclocking capability,” as with
the nForce 680i SLI.
Gone from “Designed by NVIDIA” nForce 680i LT SLI based motherboards is the
heat pipe chipset cooling solution. “Designed by NVIDIA” nForce 680i LT SLI
based motherboards will only have independent actively cooled north and south
bridges. Also gone from the nForce 680i LT SLI is the third PCIe x16 slot for
future three-card SLI Physics support, however, there are still dual full-speed
PCIe x16 slots for SLI compatibility.
“Designed by NVIDIA” nForce 680i LT SLI based motherboards are available
immediately for approximately $200. “Designed by NVIDIA” board partners include
EVGA and XFX. Expect unique nForce 680i LT SLI based board to launch at a later
date from other manufactures such as ASUS, Gigabyte and
others.
