Hardware NVIDIA Announces nForce 500 Series

Shenzhen's JWNF570SLI uses the NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP

NVIDIA has announced that it is providing product demonstrations of its new nForce 500 series at this year's CeBIT show. We brought you information a few weeks ago on NVIDIA's new chipset and today we have a little bit more on the specifics. The nForce 500 product lineup will commence as follows:
  • nForce 590 SLI MCP (enthusiast/dual GPU)
  • nForce 570 SLI MCP (performance/dual GPU)
  • nForce 570 MCP (performance/single GPU)
  • nForce 550 MCP (mainstream/single GPU)

As was the case with the earlier nForce 4 products, nForce 500 MCPs will come loaded with latest features and technologies to keep enthusiasts on the bleeding edge of computing. Features available with NVIDIA's new product family include:

  • Support for NVIDIA SLI technology including Quad SLI
  • NVIDIA ActiveArmor secure networking and security firewall
  • NVIDIA MediaShield storage technology
  • Support for up to 10 USB 2.0 devices and up to six SATA 3Gb/s hard drive

While nForce 500 products are expected to be available in mid-2006, tier-3 Chinese motherboard manufacturer Shenzhen has already released details of its JWNF570SLI motherboard:

why no DDR2 1000?

they already have DDR2 1000 memory out...

but they are stopping at 667?

Does AM2 support DDR1000? I don't think it does. That might be why.

I beleive the Opteron will support 1066 and the FX/X2 will support 800. I guess this is an entry level board.

Isn't the FSB still going to be 200MHz, anyway?
What does it matter how high the DDR2 speed is if it's not going to 'support' that fast anyway?
OCing? Yeah, maybe, but I can't seeing being able to get that high of one...

Athlon 64's don't have a FSB, they have a integrated memory controller. And early reports indicated the memory controller would support DDR2-800, making DRR2-1000 a good option for overclockers.

What you'd consider the equivalent of a FSB in A64s runs at CPU clock, which means that it runs at 1.8GHz+.

Is this basically the "nForce 5" family, or is it just a refresh of the nForce 4 with support for AM2?

Whatever it is, sure is nice to see Nvidia finally adding some HD audio to the nForce family.

It just says that some random tier 3 chinese motherboard manufacturer has implemented hd audio on this board - not that it's part of the nforce 570 spec. I hope that it is tho

I suspect you're right: the audio capability refer to the board, not the chipset.

nVidia getting back into the audio game would be very significant and not something mentioned at the very bottom of a board spec.

I really miss my old nForce2 SoundStorm equipped board. I have found an audio card that can encode Dolby Digital 5.1 like SS did, but C-Media's drivers leave a lot to be desired. No OpenAL support seem to rule out surround sound in Quake4 e.g. and there's no EAX support in games like BattleField2. (You can enable EAX support, but with surround also enabled the sound is fubar)

So, back to another Creative card for me. No Dolby encoding and a whole mess of cables round the back (plus a SPDIF running from the front?!?), but atleast I'll have sound again.

Why would you want to encode into digital just to decode it later? I really like the new SBs although my new board is within hearing ability of my audigy2zs so I will probably sell the card. If you live in missouri come pick it up for $20!

I just bought a A2 second hand and it isn't particularly impressive. My acoustic edge is better for music.

Memory speed has nothing to do with the chipset. Well on the AMD subsystem anyway :S
