Coach K
The Final Four will be shown in 3D in select movie theaters

CBS will make its first entrance into live 3DTV broadcasting during the NCAA men's basketball Final Four tournament that caps off a hectic last month of college basketball.

The 3D NCAA basketball games will be shown in about 100 theaters nationwide, designed to bring together fans to cheer on their teams with other fans.  The NCAA worked with LG Electronics and Cinedigm Digital Cinema to make the 3D broadcast possible.

The games will have different network announcers than the regular tournament according to the CBS – the duties will be handled by Steve Lappas and Dave Ryan.

CBS didn't announce plans to carry any additional 3D programming in the immediate future.  Depending on the ratings CBS receives from attendees at movie theaters, it's possible other CBS content will be shown in 3D.

Similar to the rise in popularity of high-definition TV, live sporting events are expected to have an immediate benefit for 3DTV.  Fox showed NCAA BCS football in some theaters, and the company expects to partner with DirecTV to show the MLB All-Star Game in 3D as well.

Although very few consumers have 3DTVs in the living room, it's a growing technology that manufacturers and movie studios hope to embrace in the future.  CES 2010 had products ranging from custom 3D glasses, 3DTVs, 3D Blu-ray, and other 3D-related content.

Man, I bet Coach K's schnoz will look even more massive in 3D. Oh wait, there's no chance in hell that Duke will make the Final 4. Nevermind.

I don't think even the addition of another dimension can fully capture Coach K's ego.

Yeah. Considering that Duke could only tie for 1st place in the ACC when the ACC is way down, that doesn't bode well for Duke. Duke is only a #1 seed because of the name on the jersey.

Yeah their #3 RPI (which is purely mathemtical) and 4th best record from a Top Tier conference clearly doesn't apply to their #1 seed.

Teams with the same or fewer losses that aren't #1 seeds: BYU, New Mexico, Temple, Purdue, Butler, Northern Iowa, St. Marys, Murray State, Cornell

The only school in that list of 4-5 Loss teams who could even be considered Dukes replacement as the 4th #1 seed is Purdue who is #16 RPI. I know Duke hating is all cool and whatnot, but they are the obvious 4th best team in the country, although the top 3 are the clear teams to beat.

I pity you if you think the RPI is valid. The eye test, that is 3 straight days of watching Duke barely beat Virginia, Miami, and Georgia Tech, says Duke is overrated. And seeing Duke play like night-and-day at home and on the road. The RPI and Pomeroy ratings is blind math. My own eyes seeing Duke play says they aren't that good. Try watching some of their games this year.

My alma mater beat Duke quite convincingly this last year but still is a low-ish seed in the NIT.

:-)

P.S.- But that said, I've seen Duke picked by at least one sports-rag to make it to the championship game (partly due to the weaker opponents in the South section).

Worth watching?

I don't know much about basket ball, but do they have cheer leaders too? If so, then it might be worth the bother to goa and watch :)

They've been showing some of the Six Nations rugby games (over here in the UK) at some cinemas in 3D too, but I'm not really sure that I'm all that bothered about seeing men running about and rubbing against each other in all that much detail or 3D to be honest.

NCAA basketball, not so much. NBA basketball. Absolutely! :)
