Both sides can profit from the agreement

NBC and YouTube have reached agreement for NBC to advertise and promote some of its shows on YouTube.  The TV network is going to promote its fall lineup of shows by creating an official NBC channel on YouTube.  Longer promotional video clips will made available from popular shows like "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Saturday Night Live" and "The Office."  Both companies will work together to try and produce ads that viewers will actually want to take the time to view.

Some companies are beginning to believe the fine line between television and online video is becoming less defined as time passes.  "Bringing more entertaining and exclusive content to YouTube helps further our goal of providing the best video entertainment experience on the Internet," YouTube CEO and co-founder Chad Hurley said.

Video sharing web sites are continuing to grow in popularity.  In fact, Warner Bros. is offering to sell and rent TV shows via Guba.  Sites like YouTube, Google Video, Guba and Dailymotion all allow users to upload, share and view a number of different video files.  YouTube is by far the most popular -- reportedly receiving more than 13 million unique visitors per month and 70 million videos played per day.

Almost Anything on YouTube > Jay friggin' Leno

Now mention Conan's name and I'll be first in line.

I love Conan as well, but Jay's still the man.

Conan > Jay IMO

I just hope that Conan gets to bring Max & the rest of his band along when he takes over Leno's show... Between Kevin Eubanks and that annoying-ass screaming singing chick in Leno's band I pretty much want to shoot myself everytime I watch his show.

Not much anymore -- I'm either out doing something with the GF, watching a DVD or playing WoW...lol.

As such all these video services on the net where you can watch TV programs and stuff -- has very close to "zero" value for me personally. Not to mention I hate watching shows on even a 21" monitor screen when I have a 32" and 43" HDTVs (in front of a extremely comfortable bed and/or couch I might add) for that purpose instead.

The only thing I ever go to "YouTube" for is for WoW vid clips and other stuff that folks in my guild put up on the forum pages. A few members like posting links to funny videos, beyond that I'd never touch YouTube.

This isn't for watching TV programs, this is an advertising agreement. Youtube doesn't have anything longer than 10 minutes on it, and they aren't planning to start selling anything soon. It's going to be: "here's a funny leno clip - you should watch every night."

I agree that at least at this point itunes and the other video services are terrible, especially compared to what's available illegally, but that isn't what Youtube is.

as long as your getting a quality video then its not such a bad deal to watch it full screen. when talking about the blending of tv-computer video entertainment they do not mean that people will be sitting at a computer and watch tv. i would rather like to see the day when the media center is just another part of your overall "entertainment box" and not just a fun novelty.
