Pantech Hero on the left, VK Mobile Kickflip on the right
Teenagers around the United States go into convulsions

As if MySpace wasn’t already pervasive and rewriting the way that people interact and socialize these days, the hugely popular online community is now going mobile. Helio has announced that it will introduce two cell phones in the spring that allow people to visit the MySpace network from just about anywhere.

The Pantech Hero will feature a 2.2 inch QVGA display, full duplex stereo speakers, memory card slot, and a 2MP digital camera. The VK Mobile Kickflip comes spec’d out quite similarly to the Hero, but features a display that can swivel open to the left or right.

Users of the new phones will have access to a vast array of features to keep them in touch with their closest online pals:
  • Mailbox: Ability to read and write MySpace mail from your Helio device
  • Bulletin: Send messages to all your friends anytime, anywhere from your Helio device
  • Blogs: Read and write blogs on-the-go without a PC
  • Photos: View photos on friends’ profiles optimized for your Helio screen
  • Profiles: View profiles and add new friends as you meet them directly from your Helio
  • Photo posting directly from a Helio device so experiences are shared as they happen
  • Added photo storage capacity exclusively for Helio members
  • A mobile online status indicator in a user profile for those online via a Helio device
“The true power of wireless is about communication, about connecting us to our friends when we’re out living life…Instead of simply cutting and pasting the traditional monolithic content distribution model into the ‘third screen’, we see the mobile device as the hub of your world, and content itself not just as something to be consumed, but as particles of communication to be discovered and shared” says Sky Dayton, CEO of HELIO LLC.

I’m sure that this new service will be quite a hit with the younger folks out there, but I’m still not hip to the whole MySpace craze.

Teenagers go into convulsions?
How about the 40 year old perverts who make up 9/10 of the hits on MySpace?

i know people who work at helio.

i think my personal opinion is that sky dayton will do ANYTHING to add "value" since he is a service reseller. most teenagers cant buy the treo 650s and expensive smart phones that helio's main market is, and i dont think parents will let them burn text messaging quota on myspace.

it would be hard to see people using this unless they had the smart phone, and all th epeople with smart phones are not the myspace demographic.
