Metallica's "One" master track confirmed for Guitar Hero III

My bets are still on Rock Bandbeing the next big thing on the music game scene, but the odds for Guitar Hero III just got a little better after Activision released another handful of songs for its upcoming game.

The additional tracks announced last week include:

  1. Miss Murder (by AFI)
  2. Through Fire and Flames (by Dragonforce)
  3. Number of the Beast (by Iron Maiden)
  4. 3's and 7's (by Queens of the Stone Age)
  5. Suck My Kiss (by Red Hot Chili Peppers)
  6. Raining Blood (by Slayer)
  7. Reptillia (by The Strokes)
  8. Paranoid (as made famous by Black Sabbath)
  9. Cities on Flame (as made famous by Blue Oyster Cult)
  10. Mississippi Queen (as made famous by Mountain)
  11. La Grange (as made famous by ZZ Top)

Add those to the previously announced tracks of:

  • Slash's Original Boss Battle Recording
  • Welcome to The Jungle (by Guns N' Roses)
  • Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
  • Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
  • Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
  • The Metal (by Tenacious D)
  • My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
  • Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
  • Even Flow (by Pearl Jam)
  • Lay Down (by Priestess)
  • Cult of Personality (by Living Colour)
  • Rock and Roll All Nite (as made famous by Kiss)
  • School's Out (as made famous by Alice Cooper)
  • Rock You Like a Hurricane (as made famous by Scorpions)
  • Slow Ride (as made famous by Foghat)
  • Barracuda (as made famous by Heart)

While not all songs are appealing to me, the addition of the master tracks of some truly great songs are shaping up the new setlist to be even better than the first Guitar Hero.

Oh, and the reason why I was giving the nod to Rock Band was that Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” was confirmed for EA’s game, but it looks like Guitar Hero III will have its own Metallica with the master track of “One” from the band’s “...And Justice For All” album. Suddenly, I’m very excited for Guitar Hero III.

Excellent song list... the game is definitely targeted at guys... although maybe that is because typically women like music with less of the distinct guitar in it. Maybe they should make a saxophone controller for jazz, blues, and easy listening. (and a drum controller for other stuff)

Switch the sax controller for a microphone and you just described Rock Band.

True... heck, even a keyboard guitar controller or a 5 key piano for the piano players. I guess what they need is a new game called "Hiphop Hero" or "Blues Hero".

If they did a sax controller, they'd have to make it not react to blowing... no way would you want a shared controller that works by inserting in mouth :) *shudder*

I don't know. Depends on the age of the women. I know plenty of girls in the 18-30 area, as well as younger, that listen to several bands on this list.

I know a lot of music fans and only a few women really like metal or hard rock and even the ones that do usually still prefer hiphop or other types of music.

But lets face it, video gamers are mostly male anyways so this music fits.

I guess my view is a bit skewed. Most girls I know are musicians or interested in the music industry.

And yeah, most gamers are guys so...the point's kinda moot.

I'm very excited for the Dragonforce and Slayer additions. Those should both be a lot of fun, although the Dragonforce song will probably be extremely frustrating. And I'm glad to see that they've included some classic Metallica.

There's a preview of the GHIII notechart for "Through the Fire and Flames" on YouTube right now.

If you know what the song is...imagine a chart for it and make it 3x harder. That's pretty much how hard it is. It looks like it's going to be harder than Jordan, although I'm just speculating...I don't play Guitar Hero at all.

Jesus, I just watched the youtube video and that's stupidly hard. I mean the actual song isn't even that difficult in comparison. Most of the rhythm section is just power chords and root notes played really quickly.

Actually, the "preview" on youtube was custom-made by a fan. There's a big ol' group of fans who make guitar charts that you can download to your computer and install onto a cd which you can play on your xbox. I believe you can learn more about it on the forums at www.scorehero.com .

The guy who made the "Fire and Flames" custom took it down a while back, allegedly because people kept bugging him with questions about it. Though now I wonder if maybe the developers of the GH franchise contacted him and asked him to remove it for legal reasons or something.

Metallica song!! Woot. Repetitive guitar riff over and over! lol. All kidding aside, I really think it'd be cool (And definately not happening) if Red Octane would allow the fans to vote for what songs would be on the game. I mean, don't give them a list of 100 songs, just let one user request it and all the others vote based on what's been stated. It seems that the more of these games are released, the more fans go "Man [insert song title] sucks, it's too easy" or "It's a stupid song" or something like that. It'd just be cool for the fans to have a say in what they play.

That song is going to be so hard. Slayer and Metallica it's about damn time. Guitar hero III is going to be so bad ass and I can't wait to own it and the wireless guitar. Good times ahead
