Another research report notes the growing popularity of mobile Internet
A recently released report from market researcher comScore indicates the number of U.S. mobile phone users who use their devices to access news and other information online is now totals more than 63.2 million.
"Over the course of the past yea, we have see use of mobile internet evolve from an occasional activity to being a daily part of our lives," comScore senior V.P. of mobile Mark Donovan said in a statement. "This underscores the growing importance of the mobile medium as consumers become more reliant on their mobile devices to access time-sensitive and utilitarian information."
ComScore noted that the number of mobile internet users more than doubled in the month of January, and will continue to grow exponentially in the future. The growing popularity of smartphones -- which many owners use to access the internet -- has also helped drive mobile internet adoption.
Social networking sites and blogs served as the content that increased in viewership the most, racking up an impressive 407 percent increase in daily access. Not surprisingly, news remains the most popular content to access from a mobile device across the U.S., with 22.4 million users per day.
More mobile phone service providers are transitioning away from advertising minute plans so they can focus more on Internet data and SMS packages.
The growing popularity of mobile internet usage also has piqued the interest of advertisers, who are now looking to try and cash in the infant market.
"Mobile marketing seems recession-proof due to the well-known fact that the number of mobile users is still growing and will continue to grow," Mobile Publicis Groupe head Alexandre Mars said in a statement.
