Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Bundle
Bundle gets 250GB HDD and more for $399

Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are fighting a console war that is even closer now that price cuts from Microsoft and Sony have made their way into stores all over the country. Sony and Microsoft are known to produce bundle versions of consoles with popular games to promote the launch of new game titles.

Kotaku reports that the next bundle for the Xbox 360 will be a tie in with the coming and anticipated game from Infinity Ward called Modern Warfare 2. Microsoft will offer a special black Xbox 360 with Modern Warfare 2 themes painted on the case of the console.

Along with the custom decorated console will also come a 250GB HDD, a copy of the game, and a pair of wireless Xbox controllers. The special console will sell for $399 and will be available for purchase on November 10. Game geeks that can't wait to get the console can pre-order it now.

The custom design is very subtle and puts a few gray touches on the otherwise black Xbox console. The $399 price tag is $100 more than the Xbox 360 Elite and PS3 Slim are selling for today, but the extra cost is offset some by the game, extra controller, and the larger hard drive.

Still overpriced. Also, game is better played on PC.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but over the elite, this gets you an extra 130GB in the HDD, a $60 game, and a wireless controller for $100, right? If you think the elite at $299 is overpriced, then fine, but this seems like a good value comparatively for the extra $100 bucks.

And yes...still waiting for that keyboard/mouse controller for the 360. I can't stomach shooters on consoles.

Won't Happen. Bill Gates stated that he will not support mice and keyboard. If you want that feature get a PC.
Which makes some since.

Any who if you want there is adapters out there that make it playable with mouse and keyboard

$40 controller, $60 game, $0 price difference between 160 gig and 250 gig hdd.

Course seeing as it's an Xbox 360, Microsoft will probably charge like $100 for that 130 gigs in the future, when the hdd comes separately.

I personally think the 360 is overpriced in general, when compared to a PS3. But I've stomached the price, as my pockets aren't thinly lined. I've currently have 2 RROD 360s, 2 functioning 360s, two 20 gig hdd, one 60 gig hdd, 6 wireless controllers, 2 play and charge kits, and 8 spare battery packs.

The only thing that annoys me with the console, is the cost of the hdds. The fact that I had to pay double the price of my 160 gig hdd that I put in my PS3, for a 60 gig hdd.

Its not relatively overpriced, but not a terrible deal. Lets say you wanted the Elite at $300 + $60(game) + $50(controller) = $410, so your "saving" $10 plus getting a bigger hard drive and art work. I'm using MSRP for the controller and game.

It's a little odd to me also, since usually bundles are for exclusive games. And since most people who are hyping up MW2 have played CoD:MW, I would think they would already have a console (or if they're PC gamers would not be interested in one).

Not if you are like alot of gamers who are console gamers only. $399 for all of that isn't a bad to me, as I bought my launch console back in November 2005 for $300, & bought my HDMI model for $199 last year for my gameroom. Hopefully, MS will reduce the HDD prices but don't hold your breath. I have a 120 GB drive that's more than enough for me. Good to see Sony & MS getting in the 1upmanship. competition is good especially for the consumer.

I am not one to make excuses for MS, but my 11/3/05 unit was repaired June 2008 & has had absolutely no probs since, so as far as I am concerned my 360 experience has been much better than the PS1 & PS2.

I also have a 3/2008 HDMI model that has had no issues, & honestly with game installs, the RROD issue should be reduced tenfold. I like the PS3, but prefer the 360 to it especially the Wii.

Live is still unmatched by both the Wii & PS3 interms of layout & what it offers, & I don't deny a $299 PS3 is a great value, but this bundle by MS I think is also a great value.

I only bought the PS3 for the exclusives of which I own 8 games, but own over 60 for the 360. Overpriced, as many put it, well, everything we buy one person or another could make this claim, & is relative to the value ach gamer gets out of the product. Going only by the Xbox 360 fiscal model, seems like MS is definitely on the right track.

I like it, although I don't need a new console this one should do well for em, but I am sure many gamers would rather MS lose their behinds & sell the Elites for $199. Some forget these guys are in business to make money first, & not make you happy. If you want mouse & keyboard support for gaming get a PC. I have always preferred gaming with a controller & have always preferred console gaming to PCs.

So you buy the limited edition with the custom art work, it gets the RROD, you send it back to them for replacement, will they repackage the refurbished system in your shell with the custom art work?

I know the 360 will never live down the hardware failure thing, and rightly so, but aren't the Jasper systems pretty reliable? My guess is that they probably have it right by now.

For what it's worth, I warrantied my launch system and got a jasper in return...then that got the RROD after 8 months of very minor use.

It definitely sounds like Microsoft has fixed the RROD issues with the Jasper rev of the Xbox, which has a 65nm CPU and GPU. However, if you do hit an RROD, I'd imagine they will just replace the motherboard and use the same case in order to preserve the custom artwork.

Hard drive

Apparently Microsoft in their wisdom has decided not to sell a $250 hard drive. =/

I like that the drive is up to 250GB now, should be easy for people to add a 250GB HDD of their own to an older 360, instead of being limited to 120GB. a 250GB drive is under $60 at newegg.

RE: Hard drive

I'd be willing to bet that once they will exhaust the supply of 120GB drives out there, and then start selling the 250GB drives as an upgrade for the low low price of $119.99. No real point in selling the 120GB drives once a lot of systems sold come with it...plus, the 250GB drive will help them justify the ridiculous price they want for the drives sold on their own.

I guess I'm not the target audience

This would be something I'd surely purchase for one of the extra rooms where I currently don't have a 360, if it weren't for the stupid decorations. Would this actually convince people, who wouldn't have done so otherwise, to buy it?

By afkrotch on 9/17/2009 6:31:38 AM , Rating: 2
I think majority of your die hard gamers already slapped skins on their 360s. The really die hard gamers with modding skills already modded their 360s. The leftover die hard gamers don't care what the hell the console looks like, only that they get good games to play.

I don't care what a console looks like. So long as there's lots of good games. I can always change the look myself.

2 Controllers = 2 players?

Please tell me there will be split screen co-op and online multi-player.

COD4 would have been my Game of the Year, if it had some simultaneous multiplayer.

Amen to that brother!

I loved COD4:MW on my PS3, but it bugged me that I couldn't play at the same time with my roomate. I'm not a big fan of the Halo series, but I loved the fact that I could play online with him.

Oh and one awesome feature I hope the devs keep is the replay of who killed you and how they killed you. It sucks when you die but can't figure out who did it or how.

Meh

Wanted a Forza 3 Bundle

I would have bought this bundle in a heart-beat if it came with Forza 3 instead of COD:MW2

After this is released to the wild for a couple weeks at most, modders will pull off the encrypted file and firmware to be able to turn "regular" 2.5" 250 GB Western Digital HDDs from Newegg into drives compatible with the 360. Then we can all have 250 GB drives without the $400 price tag.
