The 3 million sales covered 13 countries total

Microsoft's Xbox One console may have taken a lot of heat last year, but that didn't seem to affect sales too much as the company celebrates an "epic" 2013.

According to Yusuf Mehdi -- Corporate Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Business for Xbox -- over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold in 13 countries by the end of 2013. It launched in the U.S. in November 2013.

"It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November," said Mehdi. "Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible."

Mehdi also listed some upcoming games for Xbox One that we can expect to see in 2014, such as “The Elder Scrolls Online,” “Titanfall,” “Watch_Dogs,” “Project Spark,” “Sunset Overdrive,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” “Destiny,” and “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare."

Before it even launched, Microsoft announced that third-party publishers had the option to ban used Xbox One games, and also tried to push a new "always-on" digital rights management (DRM) system. Microsoft later retracted these features after major complaints from the gaming community.
Xbox One has also been criticized for its price, which is $100 more than the PlayStation 4s (and that's largely because Kinect 2.0 is bundled in with the console, and not many gamers were happy about that as well).

Further, some aspects of the Xbox One's OS is more difficult than they should be, such as pinning favorite applications or finding out how full the Xbox One’s hard drive is. There have also been complaints about the Kinect's voice commands being too challenging to remember.

But Microsoft’s director of programming for Xbox Live, Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson), said that the company is committed to improving Xbox One's operating system to make it increasingly user-friendly.

Kinect 2 is more than just an HD camera. It has a custom designed CPU built onboard to do image processing. Couple that with the necessary R&D costs, software, etc. Don't be so stupid.

It also has multiple sensors, infra-red and a mic. The camera is also very good quality, it certainly has better low light quality than the best smartphones have right now. It's actually worth more than $100.

Be careful. The NSA can watch you through that neat little Kinect camera.

No, there is no proof that they can. Don't make accusations you cannot back up with actual evidence.

You mean companies charge MORE than what it costs them to make something? They think they can just pocket the difference between what it costs them and what they charge us??? WTH!!!!!

when the games released are all fairly ordinary. I'll wait till either PS4 or xbox 1 have something actually worth laying out my money for. Currently there is nothing on either system (worth playing) which i don't already have on PC.

...and in fact, the only game coming anywhere soon is Titanfall in ~mid march ( Any of those 3million people could have held their cash and waited for reduced prices on consoles months later.

Regardless DS2 will be my purchase early this year :)

I am bummed... I was really looking forward to Titanfall as well. That is the only thing that bugs me about not getting and XBO, but I am still not getting it. Not for one game, that and Respawn already announced that future Titanfall releases will be on PS4, the exclusivity contract is only for the 1st one.

Why do you care what other people spend their money on? As a PC gamer, Xbox One isn't a must-have for me, but I know plenty who have been waiting years for the next Xbox who grabbed it right away.

I remember when the 360 came out and I said I’d wait for the price drop. And I waited, and waited, and waited….and it never came.

This time around I told myself I wouldn’t deprive myself of the new consoles in a vain attempt to save a buck, so I bought one on launch day. I couldn’t be happier.

Actually, my only problem is that now I keep wanting to talk to my TV’s that don’t have an Xbox hooked up to them. The Kinect sucks for games. The motion controls still suck, and mine keeps complaining that I’m too far away, so I’ve sworn off buying any Kinect games. However, not hunting for a remote to adjust the volume or turn things on/off is addictive, as is being logged in automatically. It makes the extra $100 worth it IMO.

You're talking to a guy who just shipped his XBox 360 off last week to Microsoft because of the "red dot of death." My Xbox 360 is a little over a year old, meaning it's one of the so-called new and improved XBox's that wasn't supposed to fail as easily.

I've learned not to trust Microsoft's quality as it exists only in the minds of their most fervent fanboys.

Oh yeah, but I'm sure XBox One is going to be soooooooooooooooo much better. LOL! Looks like I'm not the only one who should keep dreaming, huh?
