Microsoft marketing effort asks gamers in Asia what more they could want from Xbox 360

Perhaps in an attempt to better understand the Asian gaming market’s aversion to the Xbox 360 (and the original Xbox), Microsoft has apparently made a site with the domain name, WhatsWrongWithU.com.

On the site are links to smaller micro-sites specifically for Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Inside the micro-site claims, “Xbox has got it all!” and asks, “What more are you looking for?” Then, several pull-down choices appear – for example, people can choose to answer that there aren’t enough great Japanese games, or that the Xbox 360 doesn’t look cool enough.

While this Web site cannot yet be considered “spray paint marketing,” it is a rather strange move for Microsoft, who normally does not resort to such marketing tactics. It appears that Microsoft may be commissioned a third-party marketing company to create this Web site, as a search on the registrant of the domain returns the name of e-Crusade Marketing Co. Ltd., located in Hong Kong.

The creation of the WhatsWrongWithU site could be a regional marketing effort from the Asia-Pacific division of Microsoft, which would explain why the Japanese aren’t included as the part of the survey (Japan is a completely separate division for Microsoft).

I filled it out oo and I still think my answer of more Japanese games is a big one.

Blue Dragon is not enough!
Microsoft needs a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest or Tales of or Suikoden or some other big named RPG and preferably more than one to crack the Japanese market. Gears of War, GRAW, Lost Planet and other shooters on the 360 are great but the JRPGS arent, Enchanted Arms was okay but not good much less great, and Blue Dragon is only one title.

exactly, they need more japanese developers, and if that means throwing alot of cash at them, then by all means throw alot of cash, they have the capital to do it, and give smaller japanese devepolers a chance to bring games to ur system

Well, you'll be happy to know that Blue Dragon is receiving a sequel, so technically it'll be two titles now ;). There's also the other Mistwalker games as well.

Also, I was never sure how to classify Enchanted Arms. To me, it's more like a developer took the most stereotypical characters from Anime or Japanese RPGs and threw them in a game together. Then the fact that battles are all SRPG-esque pushes the game more toward an SRPG rather than a (j)RPG.

But who knows, developers are essentially in it for money, so they will typically develop for the system that can meet their expectations and bring in the moolah. PS3 and XBOX 360, with their relatively similar power, can deliver the same experience to the end user and some of those "die-hard Sony developers" may decide to produce games for both because it's simply more lucrative.

Capcom is already making games for the XBOX and XBOX360. Microsoft should ask Capcom to make Breath of Fire 5 and make it XBOX360 exclusive. Porting some other existing JRPGS over to the 360 would help too.

I think the most obvious answer for lower sales of any console in the Asian, African, Eastern European market is money. I mean I live in Romania which was just included in the EU, and with it came all the expenses right from the start, but the minimum salary is still only $120 a month, and the average salary is $400 a month. Considering that more than half of that goes just on utilities expenses and then you need food and clothes, maybe you need a car for transportation, and suddenly you have no more money for pleasure. So when pleasure comes in a cheap "pirated" way it's almost a no brainer in these reagions. I mean people with money do this, how do you expect people without them to restrain. I always bought my consoles and games, but I am in a situation I can afford it in some measure, while having to leave out a lot of what I would like to have.

I am against piracy, because developers need the money to be able to continue working, but if someone want's to penetrate these market areas, need to adapt the prices more. It's not enought with a 10% adjustment when people here make 4 times less than in the states.
