It's not a trap! -- Intentions of MiiVi were completely benign and not intended for public use
Last week, ZeroPaid.com accused video-downloading site MiiVi.com of being an MPAA trap. The accusations were based on MiiVi.com's DNS records, whose administrative contacts pointed to MediaDefender, Inc.
MediaDefender CEO Randy Saaf claims any accusations of wrongdoings are completely false. "We have stayed largely silent on the
issue because for the most part the story on torrentfreak is a complete
fabrication."
"It is true that MediaDefender was doing [research] on a new type
of video site that we had registered under MiiVi," Saaf adds. "All the other mumbo
jumbo about working with MPAA, spyware, lawsuits, etc was a libelously
fabricated story by a group of p2p blogs that are generally pro-piracy and anti-us ... MiiVi has nothing to do with the MPAA, the RIAA, or any
music or movie studio. It was not even meant to be used by the general
public."
Mr. Saaf did not answer DailyTech's request for additional information regarding MiiVi, including questions as to why the DNS records were changed if MiiVi was a legitimate web outlet.
In a retraction issued on Digital Daily Saaf claims MiiVi.com was not intended for public use, stating, "I deny on record that MiiVi collected information for legal actions." Saaf claims the company is working on recommendation engines like Last.FM, though would not elaborate if MiiVi is part of that project.
