Has demand for the new gaming machine gone too far?

Two armed men tried to rob a line of PS3 campers hours before launch. According to police reports, two gunmen in Putnam, Connecticut, confronted 15 to 20 people outside of a Wal-Mart shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money.

The robbers must have figured out that anyone in line for a PlayStation 3 would have the $500 to $600 to pay for the machine. While most would pay for the machine using plastic, there had to be a few with just cold, hard cash.

"One of the patrons resisted. That patron was shot," said State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance.

The two gunmen fled the scene after shooting a 21-year-old Massachusetts man in the chest and shoulder. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, with no word yet of his current condition. Read the full story here.

While last night wasn't one without incident, as there was another shooting (but with BB pellets) and a man who ran into a pole (story), but this one takes the cake.

I'm pretty sure after word gets around about shootings and such, camping out in front of stores will be verboden in the future.

My wife and I had a discussion aboiut this after she saw a bunch of people camped out in front of a best buy in an area that we dont like to even drive through in the daytime.

Figure there's people each with 550-1000 (cant forget tax and addons) on them.. Looks like a good place for a criminal to make some $$$.

some stores may be proactive enough ...but i think it will take a consumer suing and winning a store over personal injuiry or some such.

the MINUTE that happens...it will be forbidden.

though technically..i think since most of it happens on pulbic side walks, the people really are breaking any lottering laws..isnt that what they used to round up and scare off the homeless people? why not use it in this situation

Most of the times the sidewalks are on the store property and the store may have some liability.

On the loitering issue, i actually considered calling the police on some of the "smellys" outside BB when i caught a wiff while walking it to pickup a CD the other day. There was a big sign that said No Loitering, but BB didnt seem to care.

I have no tolerance for such behaviour, but imposing restrictions for what public people do, that just worng. socitity have responsibilites, and that means that if it's required in the future there should be police men at such an event.

I played it and it kicks butt - except the load time still sucks and so does the ad time at the start of a game.

Riot

Reading my newspaper this morning, riot police were brought in last night to settle the crowd at the local Best Buy. Apparently, fights broke out when people tried to get ahead of the line.
