Atul Malhotra has found himself in some seriously hot water over leaking
confidential trade secrets from IBM’s Printer Division -- his former employer
-- to two HP VP’s of its printer divisions—his then current employer.
DailyTech reported on July 3 that Malhotra
had been indicted for leaking confidential information and was terminated
from his role as vice president of HP’s printer division. PC World
reports that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced Malhotra
has pleaded guilty to stealing trade secrets.
The DOJ said that both IBM and HP have cooperated fully with the
investigation. According to PC World, the email Malhotra sent to the HP
executives said that the IBM document would help the HP sales team understand
the goals of IBM as HP set pricing for prospective deals.
HP was very clear that Malhotra violated HP policies and that HP followed
its policies by investigating, firing and reporting Malhotra to IBM and law
enforcement. PC World says that Malhotra will be sentenced on October 29
and faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
