Digit-Life catches a glimpse of the new S271

Last week we told you of Turion 64 X2 engineering samples running on prototype ATI CrossFire and NVIDIA SLI notebook motherboards. Digit-Life was able to get one step further by snagging a photo of MSI's upcoming Turion 64 X2 based notebook at this year's CeBIT show.

The S271 will feature support for DDR2 memory, 12.1" WXGA display, GbE, Bluetooth and 802.11g wireless connectivity.

Maybe for some people, but what about people (like myself) with larger hands? A 14" laptop's keyboard is rather uncomfortable for me to use, and, if I were in the market for a laptop, would probably be looking for a 17" or larger just so I can have a keyboard I can use without pain (the weight doesn't bother me much, anybody who complains about an eight to ten-pound laptop hasn't schlepped around college textbooks before).

Get a 14" Thinkpad then. I couldn't use a 12" notebook for one reason. Resolution. Even if they offeren high res 12" screens, they would almost be too small to read. I love my T40p w/ 14" of 1400x1050 glory. Perfect size/weight for my backpack too.

SLI Gaming on a 12" Screen?

So far it looks sweet, but lets get real- who is going to want an SLI game machine with a dinky 12" screen??

Anyone else notice that AMD notebooks always seem to get the shaft- manufacturers always seems to omit the 1 or 2 features that would make them great, well-rounded laptops.

If MSI wakes up and increases the screen size to something approaching 15" or 17" (preferably), this might be my next laptop...

Nobody. But this doesn't have SLI, so it doesn't matter.

I would be fascinated to see a 12.1 inch laptop try to cool 2 7800go GTXs... lol....

The above is from Europe CeBIT, I am hoping they can do better than this.

Also, AM2 result is same that THG got not too long ago. Ugggh, I am also hoping this is that rumored bug.

The problem is THG and everyone else benchmarked an EVT (engineering) sample. The actual samples for reviewers and mass production (DVT) have not been released en masse yet. What I don't understand is that THG *has* as DVT chip but didn't benchmark it opting for the EVT instead.

I expecting them to give more sizes... @ least 2 more the 15 and 17' widescreen

though i myself would prefer the 12.1

i currently use a LG 14' screen and i wish it was smaller caz it just not portable enough for school sometime, espicallay when i have lots of book.

Oooh... dual core 12". Very cool.

Hoping there is something similar in Apple's future, my Powerbook is looking a bit tired. This looks certainly an alternative though, if it's light enough.

Apple? lol, don't be funny, their stuff will always be more expencive than what it packs.

For core duo laptops there non-apple alternatives thankfully, and MSI even has a 12" one :)

you can even run OSX on it unofficially (illegally?) though it will never get Apple support.

7800GTX + 14inch
By Visk on 3/15/2006 12:21:16 PM , Rating: 2
What I want to see is 15.4 inch or 14inch screen laptop with an upgradable PCIe solution. I would KILL for a laptop like an HP dv1000 with a 7800GTX (or at least a 6800 Ultra). Or at least a 15.4 inch screen laptop. I just hate lugging around a freaking 10-13lbs laptop. I use to have an HP zd7000 and it definitely wasn't fun lugging around everywhere I went. Battery life isn't too much of an issue for me, as i spend most of my time plugged in, even while having two batteries for my dv1000. The only issue would be power consumption.

I don't know how much power consumption a Go7800GTX/Go6800U has....but the HP dv1000 consumes less than 65W.

It may be a good idea to attempt to infuse some rationality/logic into your post next time.

That, or maybe you should put down whatever you're smoking/drinking.
