Australian astronaut Andy Thomas was planning to retire in the next couple of years, but wants to help with a NASA project that will hopefully have man living on the moon

A NASA project may have astronauts living on the moon, but most likely not any time soon.  The NASA lunar exploration project wants to return to the moon around 2015, which will lead NASA to study the area and then drop off necessary resources.  The team could spend up to six months on the moon, probably around a polar region.

What the hell are you going to do on the moon for 6 months?! Driving that car around will only provide so much entertainment.

I can hear Spain telling Columbus... "Spend my money elsewhere."

NASA > better than the people spitting a dozen kids out before they're 25.

Boy, this is going to piss off those aliens when we discover their secret base on the back side of the moon.

It's a bit more like 2018 and not "around 2015". I also thought the first missions would be around 7 days and then ramp up as they built up their capability.

I think those who go to the Moon will have plenty to do for the time being, one of their tasks will be to figure out how to mine/extract resources from the soil there (or at least operate the machinery that does).

Of course this all makes me wonder what Richard Branson will be up to by this time next decade.
