Sierra Wireless and Lenovo collaborate on HSDPA/UMTS for the European market
Sierra Wireless has announced that it will provide MC8755 PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules for use in
Lenovo notebook computers. As a result, Lenovo's Thinkpad T60 and X60
models will have full access to HSDPA/UMTS networks in Europe.
The
MC8755 is not only compatible with HSDPA/UMTS networks (download
speeds peak at 1.8Mbps), but is also compatible with GSM/GPRS/EDGE
networks for global roaming.
Dan Schieler, Senior Vice
President, Worldwide Sales for Sierra Wireless states: “As high
speed networks become more widely available, we believe that mobile
professionals will find integrated 3G connectivity to be a quick,
convenient way to maximize their productive time while away from the
office.”
This isn't the first time that Sierra Wireless and
Lenovo have worked together. The two companies also integrated EV-DO
connectivity into a number of Lenovo business notebooks for the North
American market including the popular Thinkpad Z60t.
