OLED takes one more step closer to the PC desktop
The ink isn't even dry on the Kodak-Sanyo divorce, and it looks like Kodak has someone new lined up for OLED production. The evaluation agreement between the two companies will use LG.Philips LCD substrate and TFT technologies combined with Kodak's OLED technologies to create Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) displays.
LG.Philips LCD (LPL) recently became the largest LCD producer in the world (again), a title it regularly passes to Samsung LCD. Kodak was one of the original OLED supporters and has worked hard to make sure the technology does not go the way of LCOS. Samsung has been working together on OLED TV displays for some time now - the company released a 40" OLED display almost a year ago. LPL has not demonstrated any new OLED products since the announcement of the company's 20.1" OLED TV.
Neither company had any mention of when we will see a demonstration product.
