Opening statements expected today

Apple and Samsung are getting ever closer to their day in court. The jury that will ultimately decide the fate of the Apple versus Samsung patent trial has been chosen. Reuters reports that the jury panel includes an insurance agent, an out of work gamer, and a project manager for AT&T.
 
U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh spent several hours yesterday examining the background and any potential biases the jurors on the case might have. Opening statements in the case from legal teams are expected to begin today. The jury selection comes after more than a year of pretrial wrangling by both Apple and Samsung accusing the other of violating patents related to smartphones, tablets, and other mobile products.
 
Apple famously said that Samsung "slavishly copied" the iPad and the iPhone with its Galaxy family of devices which lead Samsung to countersue. The jury panel is made up of seven men and three women and from the brief descriptions of the jurors, it sounds like several have enough of a tech background to understand what's at stake for both companies.
 
The judge presiding over the case questioned roughly 36 potential jury members from the juror pool various issues, including what type of phone they used, how the economy impacted their lives, and their experience with the legal system. Jurors were also asked questions about any potential connections to Samsung, Apple, Google, or Motorola mobility. Interestingly the jury pool did include one Google employee and an Apple employee; neither was chosen for the jury.
 
Reuters reports that another juror was excused for stating that the case reminded him of Apple's legal war against Microsoft over Windows in the 90s and stated that he didn't understand how a similar case could be in court again.
 
The juror opined, "In my mind this is practically the exact same thing, but now just dealing with slightly different technology."

Tony, here's a thought.
If you make a joke, but then you have to explain the joke, it was either never funny to begin with, or you rendered the joke humourless by explaining the joke.

Do try to keep up.
Life is too short to have to correct you all the time.

Aside from the "..yesterday people.." comment I would agree only because I too am retired and since I don't own a so called smartphone and don't really care about phones, but I do care about what the future will look like.

Apple is a low priority concern compared to our banks and their continued "too big to fail" characterizations.

Dude seriously? WTF? Drano? That's a terrible thing to say... Drano is bad on the ecology, when he spills his guts I want the birds and animals to feed on it with ease... I would say eat copious amounts baking soda. It will dissolve enough in him to not kill the animals and plants that soak up his waste of space.

You are absolutely right... I stand corrected. =)

I was j/k anyhow, but a really good kharmic solution would be to force Tony to use a newer Android phone with Jelly Bean for a few days so he can see how it has totally eclipsed the iPhone is almost every way. Better hardware, better software, better screen, 4g, removable batteries, micro SD, faster OS, better OS, prettier OS, the list goes on and on.... THEN, take it away and force him to stick with his aging iPhone soaking in the knowledge that Android has not only caught up, and passed, but lapped the iPhone, and its momentum is headed even higher while IOS stagnates.

It wouldn't matter. ISheep are ISheep, no matter what. My wife has a iphone, and while it is a solid device, it is not what I want, however, I have tried.

When it comes to my phone (Galaxy Nexus), she will not even try to use it, cause she says it is too hard to learn. The funny thing is then she needs me to show her how to use certain parts of her phone that she has had for a year and is supposedly so much easier. The same things she has issues with when I show her my phone are easier to understand and get to, but it does not matter.

Sheep will be sheep will be sheep.

I personally see good and bad to both platforms, and have used plenty of both, I just don't like being told what I can do, what I can read, or where I can buy things from on a device I own. To each their own.

I agree with that... The iPhone is a solid phone and it has some good points. It may well be the best choice for people that dont understand tech at all.
