Those anticipating picking up cheap Intel Xeon processors this July will have to wait just a tad bit longer

According to Intel guidance, the company pushed back price cuts of its Xeon product lineups by one week. Originally scheduled for July 22nd, existing Intel Xeon 5300-sequence processors will not receive price cuts until July 29th.

Intel pulled the next generation Intel Xeonlaunch in from 2008 into the last quarter of 2007. The company traditionally cuts pricing of its previous generation before its next architecture, though with the Penryn launch roped in the window for cheap 65nm Core-based Xeons is rapidly shrinking.

Intel also delayed the introduction of new Xeon X5365 and L5335 processors until August. The debut price of the Xeon X5365 is $1,172, per unit in 1,000 unit quantities. The low-power Xeon L5335 will carry a lower $380, per unit in 1,000 unit quantities, introductory price.

Despite Intel Xeon price cuts being pushed back, desktop Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Extreme and Core 2 Quad price cuts will continue on as planned on July 22nd.

Intel gave no reason for the delay, though the July 22nd price cuts preempted the original AMD Barcelona launch.  All sources indicate AMD will not hit a July launch frame for its K10 processor, even though the company just demonstrated working silicon last week in Taiwan.  AMD motherboard manufacturers claim Barcelona chipsets and motherboards will be ready for fall 2007.

those xeons are only interesting if a decent 4x4... er... pardon, V8 motherboard is introduced soon.

I wonder how high the 1.86GHz model can OC? It gets directly to 2.33 GHz if FSB is bumped to the next standard 1333MHZ, but is there a chance for more?

Eh, while on the topic of V8, here's a link from your daily hw review post to a V8 article: http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/Intel%5FV8%5FM...

You mean a motherboard not specifically meant for the server space? Yeah, that would be nice.

Nvidia now have licenses for dual socket Intel platforms so expect something good to come from that; no FB-DIMMs and decent over-clocking. An E5320 on a 400MHz FSB will be at 2.8GHz and they are scheduled to be $256. Yikes!

that's exactly what i wanted to hear, thanks
lets hope they bring those on soon...

as to rippleyaliens and the readers that downvoted me: yeah, whatever. i'm gonna have one of these puppies eventually, and will hear from you then :p

I guess only interested with a person, not educated on xeons..
There are workstation level boards avaliable since launch, that support dual xeons, etc... v8.. is cool to have, but until it hits mainstream.. forgetabout it.. and OC a xeon.. dude, if you cant afford the real speed,, keep with the desktop varients.. OC'ing a DUAL PROC system, just begs for problems.. There arent even really good cooling mechanisms inplace for DP xeon cpu's.
AND with the price for 1gb DDR2 dims at $30... give me a break..
FB-dimms,, get ready to payyyy to playyy that router.

"and OC a xeon.. dude, if you cant afford the real speed,, keep with the desktop varients.. OC'ing a DUAL PROC system, just begs for problems.."

For your information you can over-clock the entry level Xeon quads and still keep the chipset in spec so what’s the problem? i.e. 1066 to 1333 FSB = 25% overclock.
There is a safe headroom in many PC components and this is true for DP systems also. Let’s just wait to see what Nvidia come out with before making meaningless statements.

I wonder if this pushes back the announced price cuts on the commercial market as well for the new Core 2 Duos and the price cut on the Core 2 Quads

The article says they're not affected.

The headline worried me, but I'm glad that my Q6600 price cut is going ahead as planned :)

$266 for Quad Core! YES!

I read the article, but I have a little bit of trouble believing that they will push 1 back a week and not the other...

That's just me I guess.

Now for those of you who hate AMD should probably be praising they deliver something good. This is basically a taste of what the future will be without any competition.

Ok I know its only a week but imagine if there were no competiton. We need Intel and AMD to be competitive. Now go hug each other.

My b-day is in July. I think I'll celebrate by getting 4GB more RAM and a discounted quad-core! W00t!

This is only a week people and for the server derivatives no less, so it doesn't affect you for the most part. Not too bad I would think, thanks to DailyTech for the info.

Any info on the UP Xeons?

quick question...
By colonelclaw on 6/15/2007 8:18:36 AM , Rating: 2
is the 3.0ghz quad-core xeon generally available in the US? here in the UK it's nowhere to be seen (except in Apple workstations)
if you can get it what is the actual street cost of this part?

reason i ask is my company is just about to buy a bunch of render nodes, so we want to know if it's worth waiting for
