Target's website shows a 250GB Xbox 360 console with Kinect bundle for $300

As the E3 Expo nears, video game-related rumors are flying, and it looks as if a considerable price drop may be planned for a certain Xbox 360 bundle.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, is an annual trade show for the video game and computer game industry where video game developers show off new software and hardware. The event is presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), and will run from June 7 - 9 this year.

On the E3 2011 website, an advertisement link features a Target Lounge ad, which shows a Xbox 360 250GB console with Kinect bundle for $299.99. Yet, when you click on the ad, it shows that the price for the bundle on Target's website is still $399.99.

This could either be a legitimate upcoming price drop, or a mistake on the website, but many believe a price drop was scheduled for E3 anyway.

This possible price drop has led to other rumors on forums like Cheap Ass Gamer, saying that the 4GB Xbox 360 could be phased out with a standalone price drop to $100-$150 while the 250GB standalone could likely drop to $200.

Other rumors include Microsoft releasing a white Xbox 360 bundle, or a newer version of Kinect, which would justify the 250GB/Kinect bundle price drop. In other words, "out with the old, in with the new."

Other recent Xbox 360 deals include Microsoft's newest back-to-school deal, which gives students a free 4GB Xbox 360 console with the purchase of a $699 or higher Windows 7 computer.

Newegg has it for $399.00 with a $60.00 gift card. Lots of places have recently been offering similar gift cards. You mention target Ive also seem Walmart and Best Buy. I would bet the price cut is true. I wonder if Microsoft is going to hit the pirates they did just before the last console price cut.

If I may expound upon my previous comments:

Retailers and e-tailers have been selling the $399 bundle with $50 cards for months, it's true. That's why I believe Microsoft will be cutting the official price of the bundle by $50 - to $349. In addition, I believe we may see some retailers (and e-tailers) further sweetening the deal by continuing to offer $50 gift cards, making the bundle a cool $299. It would be highly surprising, though, if Microsoft were to officially and permanently drop the price by $100. If it happens, awesome, but Microsoft has no history of such dramatic price drops.

Considering the current rate of XBLG memberships is at ~50% could we estimate a 3 year average subscription length for those 50%, so each unit sold may only be $299, but then tack on a $75ish XBLG gold asset it seems like a pretty solid base price to launch game sales profits from.

How much does a 360 cost to produce these days, anyway? Surely less than $100 (~$80 if halved every two years then adjusted for inflation, though they reported a 40% cost decrease in just the first year). The Kinect may be down to about $45 by now.

Also, with the Sony fiasco now is an excellent time to throw a price-drop dagger at the competition.

How do you figure $75 for a Xbox Live Gold membership? Pricing on newegg is $45. Even in Best Buy its $60.

Depends 75 could be an average cause I do know some that pay monthly which is $9.99 which turns to $119.88 a year. But yeah buying yearly is so much cheaper.

Thanks for the newegg price, I was buying for $60 but that will change now.

Keep your eye on Amazon. Last time they were selling 12-month Gold Memberships for $35, I bought three of them. I've since converted my account to a family account and merged 3 friends into it. So now the four of us have Live service until August 2013 for something like $15/yr each. I don't remember the exact math, but it was ridiculously cheap.

$60 per year X 3 years = $180, ~50% sub rate = $90, minus some overhead for retail sales (as not all are purchased online directly, though given the discount rates at which so many are sold via retail that $75 may be high).

Time to trade up

Guess my 360 will "stop working", I'll return it with my PRP at Best Buy, get my $400 back, and buy the 250GB/Kinect bundle along with a new PRP.

When I buy the PRP, they are agreeing to replace the console if something goes wrong. I've replaced my 360 3 times. Each time I had a PRP and gotten my money back. I then purchased another PRP. And truth be told, my controller is screwing up constantly by disconnecting. So while there's nothing wrong with the console, the controller is messed up and they don't just take back the controller. They replace the whole thing.

And yes I am just the model for criminal behavior...

MS is going straight for Sony's jugular.

If anything Sony should be the one slashing prices right now, but it appears they've already given up on this round and are looking to the PS4 to make a comeback from 3rd place.

Sony is in a tough position with the PS3 as far pricing goes. They just can't slash the price like MS, with the cost of the unit, so MS might as well pull out all the stops.

I have a 360. But I just pick up a ps3 for 299 and best-buy give me a $50.00 gift card so I think that Sony is dropping the price on the ps3 too.
