If black is too boring for you, try a white PS3

So what happens when you have plenty of time on your hands along with a background in painting car bodies? You take a PlayStation 3, repaint it, and auction it off of course.

Michal Birecki over at PS3center.net saw that the prices for PS3s have plummeted over at eBay (most of them are going for just a little over cost including taxes), so he decided to make his PS3 a little more "special" to help attract bids.

Using the skills that he learned from his dad who owns a body shop in Montreal, Canada, Michal disassembled his PS3 and repainted it a glossy white with a mirror finish. Even the wireless controller couldn't escape the airbrush as it too is covered in glossy white.

As of now, the auction for the white PS3 is up to $1,225 USD. It looks like the customization trick is working quite well so far.

Warrenty Voided?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this void the PS3's warrenty, even if you did happen to get an extended warrenty from a b&m store? I would be less than heistant to bid, but it a really nice paint job.

That would be correct.

Cracking the case one any modern console is an instant warranty void. Many will not even let you pay to fix it if the case has been opened.

Same here. The guy does a hell of a paint job, but throwing away more than $600 on a warranty-less PS3 is not going to happen for me. But I reiterate, he does a hell of a paint job. Maybe he could come to Detroit and help the automtive companies streamline their painting processes.

I think he IS a car painter by the look of first pic
there is no way you can get that sort of glazing without baking process (correct me if I'm wrong)

What makes you think he did that quickly or efficiently? And you can get close to that good of a job using spray paint if you take your time.

He did a nice job though.

Now it's up to $3000. Pretty crazy to pay that much for a paint job and no warranty. I was under the impression people wanted the PS3 to play the games, not to look at it. What good will this thing be if it breaks? eBay is great for showing just how rediculous people can be. :)

He cancelled those bids. One guy put 10,000,000 bid on there, of course he has two unpaid strikes and a feedback of 0.

wonder what havoc that paint wreaks with the touch sensitive buttons.....


looks good though but once all the excitiement dies down you're stuck with a waranty-less console that cost as much as an Xbox 360 + hi def lcd screen + surround sound system.


all with waranties.

i bought a 6 channel sony surround sound system last christmas for £280 you can get a 360 for what £300? and you can get hi def lcd's for about £1400 that adds up to a ball park £2000 i'm not too hot on exchange rates but i'm sure it's not a kick in the arse off $3000.

Yes. Even at $1500 it is certainly way over-valued. However nice it may be, some people have too much money on their hands it seems. Or just aren't very bright.

I like how black is now the new boring and we are moving back to white. It's just interesting is all. Well actually it was silver before black but there was white before. Damn fads!

I don't think it would be that hard to make a quick video of them going through the menu or something. Just have the white controller, the white ps3 and the screen in the shot, and show them hitting a button and it doing the same thing on the screen.
