All smartphones listed have the Medfield chip, an Intel Atom Z2460 processor for up to 2.0 GHz

Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2012 is showcasing several new mobile gadgets in San Francisco this week (I've already written about convertible PCs -- aka, laptop/tablet hybrids), but plenty of smartphones powered by Intel chips have made an appearance at IDF, too.

Intel has heavily promoted its Atom-based chips at IDF, which aim to power smartphones and tablets. Intel smartphones, specifically, will provide three different versions of the Atom chips ("Clover Trail") over the next year and slightly beyond: Medfield, an Intel Atom Z2460 processor for up to 2.0 GHz; Clover Trail+, Intel Atom Z2580 dual-core processor for 2x the CPU and graphics performance, and a next-generation 22nm microarchitecture (for tablets, this is codenamed the "Bay Trail" platform with the Valleyview system-on-a-chip).

The following are a list of smartphones powered by Intel's Atom Z2460 "Medfield" system-on-a-chip, which is expected to be released sometime next year:

In addition to Medfield-powered smartphones, Intel plans to release Clover Trail+ chips sometime next year. However, so-called Valleyview chips in the Bay Trail platform won't be available until late 2013.

Is it just me..?

Is it just me, or does this seem like a long version of 'we're getting there, but really it's gonna be a good while longer'?

All of these screenshots really emphasize the point to me... It looks like these phones are one to two generations to old to even matter... is it just me?

The front/screens look basically like every other smartphone. The performance and battery life are questionable, though, but their last phone held up pretty well in battery life and single threaded tasks.

AGree - the battery life is ~equivalent to my Sam G2...obvi, no issue on CPU perf...perhaps a bit quirky on the touch interface, not quite as smooth as SamG2, but its a much less expensive phone and give them a break cuz its their first one. Overall, the phone is actually really nice, aside from that quirkiness, adn its about as thick/heavy as an iPhone4 (but much larger screen). Excellent display, 720p video, WiDi...etc...

Is it just me, or does that last one have a weighted companion cube where the "Home" button should be?

I have this phone. That center button is same as the ones to right/left (not a 'button', it is the 'home' screen button, which takes you to the Lenovo 'Butterfly' home screen menu - has configuarable screen elelments to link to whichever 4 of your apps you want front and center, like contacts/messaging/email/angry birds, whatever. That phone kicks ass. Replacing my's not a G3, or other premium phone, but a pretty kick ass midrange phone.
