Hardware Hauppauge Releases WinTV-HVR-3000

Tune into DVB-S, DVB-T, analog cable and FM radio on a single card

Hauppauge has released a new addition to its WinTV product lineup: the WinTV-HVR-3000. The new WinTV-HVR-3000 can tune into three different video sources.

The  new tri-mode TV tuner can decode DVB-S satellite, DVB-T terrestrial and regular analogue cable sources.  The new tuner also supports FM, DVB-S and DVB-T audio broadcasts.

In terms of recording the WinTV-HVR-3000 can store audio and video in MPEG2 or MPEG1 formats. Hauppauge bundles its own WinTV application with WinTV-Scheduler for automated recording features. Automated recording features are also backed by a 7-day electronic program guide too. An IR remote is also included for use with the Hauppauge WinTV software as well.

Expect the WinTV-HVR-3000 to be available for European consumers very soon.

when does thos manufactures add PCIe to there lines ??

or why they didn't add MPEG4 to the party here ??

only PCIe & MPEG4 is missing in this card !!!

High definition/DVB-S2 is also missing. Luckily they have a HVR-400 part for this (also PCI), see http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/products/data_hvr...

I'd like to see a way to add a cable card to it for recording HD cable. Multiple tuners like a HD version of the MCE500 would be nice too.

Cable card will only happen with Vista and even then, only with prebuilt media center systems, not standalone cards.

Totally agree esp with the PCI-e statement. As I don't have another PCI slot to spare. Anyone else think the fast transition of mobo makers to PCI-e was a dumb move. Here PCI-e has been out for almost 2 years and yet most consumer level add on cards are still made for PCI.

Right now I have both of my PCI slots filled and I have 3 free PCI-e 1x slots and one free 16x slot. This is stupid.

It was my understanding, and I may be wrong(it's happened before)...that PCI devices work in PCI-E slots. Am I mistaken?

I haven't tried this but I've read a way to troubleshoot a PCI-E video card problem would be to put in an old PCI v/c and see if the slot works...is that false?

PCIe is not what its cracked up to be for lots of companies, the high latency attributed to it is a cause for concern, esp since it cost MORE to manufacture for PCIe cards when they already have equipment in place for PCI cards.

Still more PCI slots than PCIe slots on market. One of the many reasons when cards still come in PCI form, first seen with Creative soundcards, they just recently started with some PCIe cards.

A tv card is quite a bus-hog though and would be the first thing you'd advise to move to PCIe.
Also, the latency is a nice excuse Creative throws around but it seems graphics cards run fine on PCIe without weird delays or issues, so it sounds like bullshit to me to quote latency.
Third, since devices on old PCI have to share the bus you'll find that there's your source for latency.
reallife example: I had a system with a TV-card and a gigabit NIC and if I used the TV preview while transferring data the transfers crawled with what seemed like dialup speeds.

Yes more and more products, even big brand dvd players now, support DivX/Xvid/MP4, would be nice if they finally moved to hardware mp4 encoding support more often, pinnacle has usb2 boxes that do it I think, so it's not like it's that outrageous to ask for.

I wonder if they finally updated their software. Its really aging and it shows. Also, I would like to know how well it works with Vista. The latest version available for download doesnt work too well with Vista and my humble PVR-150. I guess they still have some time to make it good...

Depending on the type of hardware components they used, they might not have updated the base drivers to support Vista. But I do share the concern of their aging drivers and WinTV application. I do not mind that it's old since it works under XP. But I hope that they'll give the finishing touch so they'll have immediate support for Vista on launch day.

Not to worry, Vista auto detects pretty much all hardware out there and gives it the correct drive. Most tuner cards are included, if not then you can often download them through windows update.

I've tried it out on a media center pc with two tuner cards in there. vista picked them both up just fine, and btw the new media center rocks!

not really, vista pretty much is a waste. However it is convenient that it detects around 90% of the hardware for you. I haven't had a machine yet that has had a driver vista doesn't know about.

Windows XP also came with a large cache of drivers, then a month after it was out all it did was take up space since all the new products released obviously are not supported.
Plus I do hear from people that tried vista and all of them had at least one device for which there were no vista drivers, not in vista's driverscache either.

Hauppauge's software has always been a piece of crap, IMHO. An afterthought. In fact, the only reason I bought a PVR250 was for Snapstream's Beyond TV, and most other people used there's for other third-party recording software which was much more superior (Beyond TV, Myth, Sage, hell - even the Media Center software in Windows MCE)!

A digital TV tuner card - especially PCI - is worthless to me. Why not an HDTV tuner? And why not PCIe???

Hauppauge only irritate me at this point...

If you think Hauppauge is bad, then you better stay away from ATI/AMD tuners with a 100km pole.

The last ATI TV tuner I got lasted me for perhaps 10 years. I did not count the length I had the card for but I do know that it was rock solid. I figure I'd give their HDTV tuner a try, seeing that there's always the off-chance that I may get some OTA HDTV signals. I installed the softwares and tried to be as minimalistic as I can. Analog tuning worked until suddenly it borked out. It wasn't a hardware failure but a software issue. I called up ATI's techie hoping that I'd get some advice on how to deal with the problem. He claims something is using my overlay, which I call BS. I've ran MPC, WMP, DScaler, and various other applications that is likely to use an overlay for video. Everything ran perfectly fine... except ATI's software.

I got fed up with the dumbass support guy at ATI and returned it. My alternative? The Hauppauge PVR-150. Installed, fired it up, scanned the channels... and played with it. No issue. No hiccup. No problem. Drivers installed and updated to the latest. Apps installed and updated to the latest. No problem with overlay. Nothing at all. I never had to reformat or do anything drastic. It just ran.

So how do you know you did not simply in your efforts omitted a vital piece of software?
Besides, just because one person has an issue does not mean a product it flawed, we'd have to see a number of similar complaints.


Use the tuner card as a PVR...

I use the Win TV-150 as a free PVR. Just download GBPVR from http://www.gbpvr.com

The guy gives away the software and it just works. GREAT!

Both terratec (www.terratec.net) and kworld have PCI-e cards.. but.. kworld sucks, and terratec one doesn't have a video input (although it has double tuner).

I'm very pissed at the situation with tv cards. I got an old 7 years old Avermedia (which still works great) and want to upgrade to something new in PCI-e, but most cards atm look just the same as my old one.. wtf, it's retarded. Where are the cards with digital video input ? it's been 7 years omg. The only HDMI card available is just 1080i and costs 200$+
