The previously leaked Desire 8 is formally known as the Desire 816

The HTC “Desire 8” that we’ve been talking about for the past few weeks has officially stepped onto the stage as the Desire 816. This decidedly mid-range LTE smartphone will be available in China starting next month and worldwide beginning in April.

The official specs pretty much mirror the leaked specs we revealed earlier, so that means a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 1.5GB of RAM, 5.5” 720p display, 8GB of storage, and microSD expansion of up to 128GB. Other features include a 13MP rear camera (f/2.2), 5MP front camera, 2600 mAh battery, and BoomSound stereo speakers up front.
Just a few rungs down the ladder is the new Desire 610. The Desire 610 uses an even lower resolution 960x540 display, a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and microSD expansion up to 128GB.

The Desire 610 also packs in an 8MP rear camera along with a 1.3MP front-facing camera and BoomSound stereo speakers.
The Desire 610 will launch in May. Pricing is not yet available for either HTC’s new smartphones.
