The rumored HD7.  (Source: WMPowerUser.com)

Internal planning spreadsheet for O2, showing Oct. 18 launch date for HD7,  (Source: Engadget.com)
Windows Phone 7 successor to HD2 will make its way stateside by year's end

A tipster at WMPowerUser posted what appears to be a schematic of the rumored HTC HD7, a Windows Phone 7 device and successor to the HD2. As Engadget reports, there's no way to be sure whether this is a legitimate HTC document or not, but it appears to have merit considering it is the same tipster who posted the HTC Mozart video yesterday.

The drawing is the first visual of the unannounced device, and depicts what seems to be a nice-looking camera with dual-led flash. Staying true to the HD line, the HD7 is said to boast a 4.3-inch screen.

The folks over at PocketNow are reporting that an HTC executive has let on to the fact that the HD7 is coming, and soon. "We will be launching Windows Phone 7 handsets next month and we will be concentrating on Android and Windows segments. So far we have launched six models and around five more models by end of the year," Mohammad Kais Zribi, an HTC regional director told PocketNow.

Engadget also got their hands on a spreadsheet -- allegedly an internal planning document for the U.K. carrier O2 -- which shows an October 18 release date for an "HD7." Combined with what Zribi said, it would be a safe bet to assume that the HD7 will make its way stateside at least by year's end.

WMPowerUser has promised to release full specs for the device soon.

I always thought at you did. Until I started using touchscreen devices. Real touchscreen devices not WM6 stuff. Started using the QWERTY less and less, and even found it downright intrusive when I had to slide or fold the device open to type. Then updated software keyboards like Swype came along.

Now, the physical keyboard is just a fond memory.

Swype is the future along with voice when possible. Keyboards are inefficient and outdated. My Swype trial just ended and I need to get the latest version.

I know I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of the capacitive screens, and can type much faster when I have actual tactile feedback.

The best thing about a real keyboard? I don't have to sit there and look at the screen the whole time to type.

Yes, I've used swype, and yes I think it is amazing. But you're completely nuts if you think that a screen will ever be better than a physical keyboard.

I never once said that a virtual keyboard is better, just that I got used to the software one on a device the size of a phone. The form factor is just too restrictive.

No doubt I can type faster on a computer keyboard rather than virtual one, but on a small device like a phone, I'm not attempting to type a novel, just enough to text and respond to some message boards. The software one just makes more sense for that application, especially if the device has a reasonable sized screen like 4" min.

I actually swype out complete words all the time without looking at the phone. Words with more than 2-3 angle changes are predicted quite well. I suspect you down own a swype phone. The learning curve from ownership and regular use will put you past a mini-physical keyboard is short order. I'm already definitely faster than my previous G1 keyboard, which I used for 18 straight months.

I want to marry swype and have its baby.

i love swype, it just needs some logic tweaking. like when i'm entering 'good' it puts in 'god'. maybe i'm doing something wrong though.

anyhoo, why is it with mobile phones, they seem to be coming out here in the UK first now? everything else is stateside first.

Circle on the key you want repeated. In your example that would be "o".

Well, I would tend to agree. I find the occasional letter pattern scenario where it comes up with a rare-use word first with my word as the second choice. It would be nice to have a tweaking option to choose a word preference. Its only 3-4 commonly used words, which isn't many, but it would be nice to make it perfect.

Yep, hardware is the easy part. Especially with the revelation that Tegra 2 is coming to smart phones. It's all about the OS, and Microsoft can integrate office, xbox, zune...how could they possibly screw this up?
