GTA V is a resounding success

I don't think there is anyone out there who expected Grand Theft Auto V to be anything other than a massive success. And true to form, the numbers are in for the first day of GTA V sales and sales for the game have broken records for publisher Take-Two Interactive.

GTA V racked up $800 million in sales globally during the first 24 hours of availability.  That figure makes GTA V the most successful member of the Grand Theft Auto franchise in the first 24 hours of availability.

The game launched on September 17 for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

"All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry's new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two.

The game was developed by Rockstar North and published by Take-Two Interactive. GTA V also has access to Grand That Auto Online, which is an open world game set to launch on October 1, 2013. Access to the online world is included with the game purchase.

they didn't even release the PC version yet, not even the PS4 and Xbox One Version...

when those get released they are looking to make another $1B when people find out about how much better the graphics and feel are on the next gen consoles

I think most consumers will remain apathetic by a bump in graphical fidelity; they'll probably need to offer some other incentive or gameplay addition or expansion to entice people that already bought it to buy it again.

The PC Master Race cadre is a small audience, insanely vocal though they may be. They'll be hard-pressed to justify $200,000,000+ budgets.

Where is the PC version, console version is kinda waste of money for anything but a couple months quick fix play.

ps4 and x one out in couple months buying old gen games now, is just a couple months quick fix for most, since there is really no good games being released, most less financed game developers are on hold for those newer versions. they dont have big budgets to develop and release early then re-work them again for the new consoles in few months.

What about GTA V?, Saints Row IV? Assassins Creed: Black Flag will be out soon too.

Anyway, just because the next gen is right around the corner doesn't mean there is nothing to play now. Besides, enjoying GTA V now means that we're not just sitting around waiting for our PS4s to arrive.

P.S. No PC version of GTA V has been announced and there is no guarantee they'll ever announce it.

What are you talking about? Every GTA has released on PC, sometimes half a year later, but they always are.

Just because it hasn't been announced doesn't mean anything. Technically the XBOX One and PS4 versions haven't been officially announced either and it'd be utterly stupid to think it won't come out of those.

Considering the next-gen consoles and PC's are so similar, it's safe to say they'll all launch simultaneously, and similar prices, with similar graphics.

Yeah, it's only Red Dead Redemption that they have no interest in porting to PC, right?

PC version will be released together with next generation console version. They are not doing crap port like previous ones.

Next gen consoles = PC architecture.

US$0.8B in sales on the first day? Holy crap, it's come a long way since the semi-indie GTA1. That said, I've felt somewhat "meh" since GTA3.

I played GTA 3 and didn’t care for it much. Skipped GTA 4 and was going to skip V but I have a friend who worked on it at rockstar and he got me a copy.

I’m really enjoying it. Much richer environment, and the story line so far is amazing. Very well done.

It sounds like in a sense, GTA4 and GTA5 were building upon GTA3, and now with GTA5, they've come pretty close to the full potential of the format.

Boring? You have to do things other that just missions. It's fun to be a one man crime wave sometimes. Explore the city, make stunt jumps, just try to out run cops at 5 or 6 stars, etc.I hope there will be a PC GTA 5. If they are going to make a true PS4 XB1 GTA 5 then a PC port will be easy for them to do. No Roman,i do not what to go bowling with you.lol

Yeah but the problem is this: Once you've played Ultima 6 and 7 through to completion, no modern open-world games feel "alive" or fulfilling. They all feel empty or missing something that eventually spoils the atmosphere to the point where you look at these games and go... "what's the point?"

All sandbox games are fatally flawed once you've experienced the original sandbox masterpieces. Even those Ultimas weren't perfect but they to this day are still superior to anything we have now.

There's a reason I've never beaten a single Elder Scrolls title yet played them all. Morrowind had amazing story and depth... but was too easy past level 12. Oblivion looked beautiful and had talking, animated citizens that said all of three lines. It was a cardboard world of props and nothing more. Skyrim alleviated some of this by really upping the atmosphere and giving citizens more individuality. Yet, once you step foot into a dungeon they all end up being the same linear progression down a lengthy corridor akin to a haunted house, culminating in some tough guy you kill and then a passageway that takes you back close to the beginning of the cave/dungeon/etc.

Every single time you hit one of those scenarios--and you do, you catch onto it, the games fall apart and the will to continue is destroyed. Ultima games always had you searching to the end for more. More content. More discoveries. More intrigue. More everything. The books were even worth reading. The quests were multi-layered and involved many individuals and rarely seemed the "same."

Why is it that nothing has come since that even tries to be like these of old?

So meh. GTA is GTA is just another sandbox like the rest that try so hard yet fail so greatly. About the only exception would be Stalker and even those aren't exactly full-blown sandboxes. Fallout 3 is a close second.

I dunno. I'm just old and crotchety I suppose. :)

i know exactly what you mean. morrowind (I still have the limited edition figurine that came with the black box) was flawed, but immersive and alive somehow. by comparison, oblivion was like walking through a painting: very pretty, but empty and sterile.

As someone that played the ever-loving crap out of Ultima 6 and 7, I completely disagree with this.

as our teenagers waste their time playing games & preparing for a professional life at McDs flipping burgers, the rest of the world spends their time getting educated in science & engineering for manufacturing jobs that the US can't keep in the states for lack of enough engineers

Around here the Mexicans flip our burgers and the do a damn fine job of it. Its always the pimply faced teenager at the drive up that gets my order wrong.

Just FYI games are not the problem, lazy ass know nothing parents are. I refuse to produce people that out of the gate are a burden to society i owe that to my kids and i owe that to our declining country.

Oh, I love wasting my time and money buying and playing games like GTA V.. when I'm not driving my Ferrari, Aston Martin, or GTR through the streets of Orange County.

You forget not everyone who plays games or has fun in real life can't make a great living. In fact, I probably employ people like you, so thank you for not playing games :)

the multiplayer came out and it was a whole new game (pun intended). The races, cops vs. robbers, gang warfare and the ability to create your own mini games (King of the Mountain was one of my favs). Shootouts at the airport (LMAO when you shoot someone from a copter), capture the hideout, etc. This gave you many more possibilities.
