The next teaser for Gran Turismo set for online distro this October

It wasn’t Resistance: Fall of Man that made me buy a PlayStation 3, nor was it the promise of MotorStorm. Rather, it was word of a free Gran Turismo HD download from the PlayStation Store.

Sadly, the Gran Turismo HD download, even though knowing full well that it offered just a very small glimpse at what Polyphony Digital is working on, was far from satisfying. That’s not to say it was bad – it just wasn’t enough.

While I was expecting the next piece of GT to come out would be the full fifth instalment to the series, Sony announced at its E3 press conference that just a “Prologue” version would have to do for the holiday season. No details were released regarding GT5 Prologue at the conference, other than it would be available as a download from the PlayStation Store.

This wouldn’t be completely uncharacteristic of Polyphony Digital, as it has in the past shipped versions of its racing game in “Concept” and “Prologue” form – it’s just a little odd that the PS3 won’t be getting its killer racing app until it is into its second year.

Launched today, however, is the Japanese site for the game which states that the game will be coming this October – providing a telling hint on the North American release. Also on the new website are screenshots and movies showing off some impressive visuals.

Thankfully, those of us with far too many gaming machines on our hands will have to contend with the excellent Forza Motorsport 2 until Gran Turismo 5 arrives in full.

I'm a fan of the GT series owning GT1 - GT3, but somehow did not get Gran Turismo 4, it just didn't look as good as 3. I too have to say Gran Turismo 5 is one of a few games that will make me get PS3, the level of detail and effort that goes into this game is not a weekend job, of half hearted effort.

I'm liken those screen shots, if all is true about the game (up to 20 cars in a race and full animated pit crew) hell this is gonna be sweet with the whole new lineup of cars.

Just for the record, I have have gold in every licence test in GT1, GT2 and GT3 in AUTO & MANUAL (not to brag at all just showing my detecation towards the game). And a little gameplay hint for GT3, you win the Dodge GTS-R Concept from S-Licence all gold. :)

I'm sorry but GT4 is much better than GT3.

That said my personal favorite was GT2.

I just won the Gt 'F1' car the other day after doing one of the 24 hours races and it sure as hell made me start to play the game again!

I hope GT5 is just as good. That said, however, i simply cant afford the PS3 to run it on.

This hasn't changed since A spec

This game looks pretty good, but is it just me or has nothing changed since A spec? The graphics look good, not great, I would say. Quite obvious jaggies in the Ferrari shot makes me cry. It better look better before it comes out, it hardly looks different to GT 4, but with crowds and more depth of field. Wow, so next gen...

I didn't notice and jaggies. Did you open it fully? cause i saw just smooth lines and then found jaggies when it shrunk.

I bought a PS2 with the intention of playing GT4 and Madden, and other games that interested me once they came out. Guess what..there were no other games. $300 + $50 for extras + 2 $50 games = about $450, or $225 per game. I won't be repeating that mistake. At least my PC is still useful when I'm not playing video games.

The video game industry is definately quantity over quality. I look at racks and racks of games and think "Who buys this crap???" Sure, I'm picky, but apparently many more people are not picky enough.

Wow, that game looks incredible. It's a shame there aren't enough racing games of that caliber anymore, least of all on the PC. Why doesn't Microsoft port over Forza? I love that game on my Xbox, and I'd love it even more in DX10 glory.

funny looking?

while the screenshots look awesome; is it just me or do they look a bit funny.
In the sense that they look as if stuck on from a in house photoshoot.
Its like each car has its own studio lighting, then cut out on a photo and then stuck on the track background.

I think we're approaching the phenomenon in graphics that was seen in CGI moviemaking where a 100million was spent on CGI and then another 100 million is needed to make it NOT look like CGI but more natural.

Does it include...

...a decent AI? I've played up to GT4 and so far, this series has neglected the competition. How's GTHD going with the AI? What should I expect in GT5?

graphics <> fun

GT3 was great. I played until almost 100% game completion. I was so pumped about GT4 I bought it on or near it's release. I definitely got my money's worth but only made it to about 25% (if I remember).

Once I got the open wheel car, that was it. Why would I want to spend time racing Miatas when I could drive something with so much more horsepower? Especially on the Nurburgring. UGH!

Also, those of you who received gold medals in the license exams will understand when I complain about the shitty cars that you got for acheiving gold and silver. Those medals were many times harder to receive than the lowly bronze medals and some of the cars were useless, literally.

I hope they don't forget about fun in GT5. Keep B-spec, that was pretty cool.
