The beta of Flash 10.1, hardware accelerated Flash, is working on the impressive Nexus One smart phone. That means services like Hulu and Flash games are Nexus One-ready.  (Source: Adobe on YouTube)

It also means that you may soon be seeing a lot of Flash ads when you browse the web on the phone.  (Source: Adobe on YouTube)
Hardware accelerated Flash is incoming for the hot N1

Yesterday Google officially announced the Nexus One smart phone, an Android 2.1 handset with hardware from HTC and a personal software touch from Google.  The new handset brings a super-fast 1 GHz Snapdragon mobile processor and offers new Android 2.1 features like voice-to-text entry in all text fields.  The handset had been rumored to be incoming since last month, when Google handed it out to employees as a Christmas bonus.

Adobe has released a video detailing its own work with Google on the N1 phone project.  The video details Adobe's efforts to pack Flash 10.1 -- hardware-accelerated rich internet media -- into the powerful smart phone.

Staff at Adobe state that Flash 10.1, currently in its second beta, is progressing nicely on the smart phone.  They showed it being used to play online games and browse rich-media sites like NationalGeographic.com.  One prospect that will excite many is the possibility of using the Nexus One to watch video on-the-go via Flash-based services like the popular TV website Hulu.

Of course, with the good comes the bad -- cell phone-ready Flash offers Nexus One creator Google an excellent new way to deliver graphical ads to users.  In fact, the demo by Adobe showed an animated ad for dog food, the kind that some PC users (those who don't used ad-blocking software) have become accustomed to.  That's good news for Google, but a minor headache for consumers who'd rather not have their scant smart phone screen space taken up by colorful ads.  It's also a bit of an inconvenience to telecoms, as Flash ads equate to more data traffic.

For better or worse, though, Adobe Flash is coming to the Nexus One phone.  If you want to try it for yourself, Adobe says the latest beta is working on the handset.  You can visit the Adobe Labs page, home to Flash 10.1, here.

Honestly - Adobe is soooo slow getting updates out for certain systems. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if something like Silverlight eventually overthrew them.

That and adobe and their incremental updates. IF i install adobe pro I need to load 4 updates and reboot 3 times. Sure I can make a MSI, but then I need to create a new one for each update. Adobe is painfully slow in the business market to get anything done.

Read the title of the article. It's about FLASH on the N1.

Don't kid yourself, its complaining for the sake of it. Exactly how is the parent company of one of the two products mentioned relevant to the article? His complaint isn't even aimed at flash!

The Apple Way

Apple will do what they do best--over control everything and end up with an oh-so-precious minority. But what's 50 points of market share compared to that elitist glow you get from being on of the chosen few.

Well this chosen one here has ordered an N1 unlocked, i'm quite fed up with my iPhone, every update makes it slower, I know what Apple is trying to do there and it isn't going to work.

I should receive my N1 tomorrow, I'll post my impressions of it, even though I'll be living on EDGE connections. Have to stay on AT&T for a few more months.

On that note, why oh why couldn't they just make the N1 a GSM/CDMA hybrid? That would without question justify the $571 price tag.

So....

How do I load NoScript on this thing? Although it's nice to have flash support, I wasn't too thrilled with the demo I saw where the guy was showcasing the support for flash ads.

In order to get an Android phone on Sprint, I have to leave my currently ancient/inexpensive "unlimited" (5GB/mo) data, unlimited text, 1,000min plan and buy into a plan that costs double. It's the SAME "unlimited" data plan, but they think they can screw me over like that? Nope.

I'm ordering the N1 and switching to T-Mobile. Unlimited internet (no cap listed), unlimited text, unlimited T-Mobile calling, and 1500 shared minutes for the two of us for $110/mo.

G1 and G2 are £35/mo, there Unlimited limit in the uk is about 2gb but its flexible you have to get to 3gb before they cap you to 2g/GPRS speeds or go over 2gb per month 2-3 times then they Cap your connection to GPRS for one month as well as SMS you or ring you up

most users never really do 500mb, some do use streaming on the devices

what i find hard with the lets just blame the users fault with overusing Iphones, Data packets have lower priority over voice calls so droping calls should not happen unless signal is low (for HSDPA that can happen most of the time), most of the time its the Phone it self that makes the issues, set you Iphone or what ever phone you get and set it to 2g/gsm/CDMA most will find there problems go away wiht missing phone calls or making calls

or if you can turn off High Speed data and use 3g my windows phone stays on auto 2g/3g now and it works very well now with HSPDA on the Phone would try staying connected to HSDPA service when signal was to poor so phone was saying it was connected but no phone calls or internet could work (basically what happens on the iphone), i do not think you can disable HSDPA on the iphone like you can on an windows phone so you have to turn off 3g off when your not using the internet and want the phone to work as an phone

I think once the nexus one is release I'll be ditching my iPhone and At&t for good. while I was thinking of moving over to Verizon. t-mobile has great coverage in my area and in areas with no coverage I think you get to piggy back on At&t's network EDGE/GPRS no doubt but better than nothing I guess. T-Mobile seems like they'll have the best speeds and their migration to LTE should be faster than At&t. I'm sure their customer service can't be worse than At&t's.

Plus an open source phone will no doubt have mobile firefox support and hopefully plugin support so we can kill those ads on our mobiles as well. It supports flash and no doubt will support the exchange features that google offers with gmail. Sync email, contacts, and calendar. What else can you really ask for?

No more apple control =)
No more itunes =) One of my biggest gripes. Who wants a program that needs 6+ damn services running to basically give you access to a thumb drive. Its completely retarded. Oh and then it will constantly get you to install quicktime and safari. Don't pre check boxes for things to be installed with updates! Just another reason to hate them more.
Best of all No more apple and At&t =)

one apple product was enough for me while it was the best phone at the time the 3G is clearly lacking and apples control is sickening. No turn by turn and voice dialing because they want to you upgrade to the 3GS. It is software... Its not like the 3G can't support both. I hate apple btw.

Just a few more months to wait ;)

Still not a Iphone killer from all that I read. Good luck for those having to fork over $529 + tax for one of these if your not with T Mobile. Youll have to buy a seperate micro memory card with high capacity if you want any kind of storage, that adds another $40 or so to that cost. Verizon is for girls and homos, and their reaching with their commercials. I love my 3GS 32GB iphone, no problems here.
