Paid software referals are back

It's been quite a while since AllAdvantage was in the news. The company at the time had made a huge entry into online advertising and was one of the pioneers of the pay-to-refer model of advertising. Google is now bringing that model back and hopes to take it mainstream.

The search giant has announced that its AdSense program has been updated to now feature referral pay programs. Google says that for those who run AdSense, $2 will be paid each time a user installs Google Pack and $1 is paid each time user installs Picasa. At this point however, the program ends and there is no ladder referral. The AdSense user does not gain more money each time their user refers another user.

While Google is staying away from multi-level marketing schemes, it hopes that with the new AdSense strategy, more people will take notice in its branding and trustworthiness to produce and provide software.

Picassa is actually an excellent program...definitely one of the better photo library apps available (free or commercial).

Yep. Agreed. Beats opening up an image in Photoshop actually for quick touchups and so on. I use a Canon EOS 20D and it is a great tool for my JPEG shots.

I wish there was a quick way to resize files in it though - I'm tired of using the picture resizer powertoy after I load the pictures in Picasa.

I agree Picasa isn't bad, I was being a bit sarcastic.

They seems to have changed the contents of the 'Pack' from what I remember being in there at first launch. There's not a reasonable monetary amount I would accept to install 'Real Player' on anything but a disposable OS.

how much for an OS ?

So it's 1 $ for a program and 3 $ for pack of programs . There were rumors about a Google Linux distro so how about it Google ? How much do we get for installing that ? 10 $ works for me ...
Never mind , I'm such a big Windows fan I'll do it for free .

You wouldn't get anything for it, people get paid a measly dollar or two for click-throughs or whatever from their website if they install Google's stuff.

Hmm, I've got a website which I last updated a few years ago but still exists, maybe I should put the links on it and install it into a rollbackable Windows install in VMWare a few times, using a dynamic IP address so it looks like each visit is unique. I actually remember getting a cheque from AllAdvantage many many years ago, it would be nice to get money for nothing again :)

get 3 or four of these a month and you can pay for an online MMORPG though =]

How about they just pay the installer directly?

Seriously. For $3, I'll install a piece of software from Google. And I may even use it.

Instead, it's the webpage owner, who's computer isn't the one affected gets the money.

First off, you need to get a job if you are willing to install something for $3.

Second, your subject makes absolutely no sense. They don't pay the installer because they're trying to get people to refer them. You're more likely to refer someone when YOU benefit from it, not them.

I remember 'using' AllAdvantage with MyAdvantage. $20 a month for running a macro. Sweet, sweet deal. Can't imagine why there not around any longer..
