Wow that's just crazy... I can't believe the Wall Street Journal published a story that is obviously at least partially fabricated.

Part of a larger plan?

quote:
A representative for the unnamed cable company stated, "If we did this, Washington would be on fire."

Maybe google is trying to create a situation that will open people's eyes? They actually want legislation in favor of Net Neutrality to pass. But the politicians wont act until somebody tried to exploit the current system. Well it looks like google is going to do just that.

I have no idea if what I describe is what google is actually doing. I'm just saying it is a possibility. If google and/or other content providers do start paying for and getting special treatment for their data I will cry.

I laughed at this quote pretty good, because it sounds like something that would happen. In this digital age, Internet is one of the few things most people can get behind.

Time to take this down

The information here has been clearly discredited as a misrepresentation of Google's goals of building a content distribution network. Jason, you need to either heavily edit this article or take it down.

Agreed. Check your sources next time and apologize for not doing so in the first place.

Google clarified.

Google and Dr Lessig clarified that they're not trying to get a fast lane in the pipeline that would squeeze the remaining bandwidth for everyone else. They just want to collocate severs with cached content closer to the users. That would actually ease the bandwidth.

The article on the Wall Street Journal was already discredited. It is not true.

Did they ever stop to think that this is just going to increase piracy? Bring it into the homes of mom and dad, who won't even be able to casually browse the internet freely without a gray-area circumvention.

Slow Google
By AnnihilatorX on 12/15/2008 5:13:23 PM , Rating: 2
For some reason Google image and google map is really slow in some UK ISPs. My friend and I have 2 different ISPs but we both have problems often with loading of google image and google map tiles. More often than not the map will be patchy with some tiles loading and some not. Images in Google image fail to load sometimes, and I have to resort to http proxy.
