GoPro Hero4 Black can shoot 4K video at 30fps

HTC may be readying its entry into the arena of rugged, adventure cameras, but market leader GoPro is already on top of things with a new lineup of cameras to fend off any new challengers. The company is launching three new models including the Hero4 Black, Hero4 Silver, and the entry-level Hero.

GoPro promises that the new $499 Hero4 Black offers twice the performance of the previous generation Black model. The Hero4 Black brings with 4K video recording capabilities at 30 fps. It can also record 2.7K video at 50 fps and 1080p video at 120 fps.

According to GoPro, the 1080p/120 fps mode "virtually [eliminates] rolling shutter in most scenarios while allowing for time-bending slow motion effects.

GoPro is also introducing the $399 Hero4 Silver. Given the $100 lower price tag, the Hero4 Silver makes do with 2.7K/30 fps, 1080p/60 fps, and 720p/120 fps recording modes. But while its recording performance is inferior, it gains touch screen controls.

Features that are shared between the two higher-end models include Wi-Fi connectivity, and the ability to survive up to 131 feet under water.

The last new model is simply called the Hero, and will be available for $129. The Hero includes a rugged, waterproof (to 131 feet) case, and further reduces shooting performance to 1080p/30fps and 720p/60fps.

GoPro says that each of its new cameras will be available on October 5.
