New Silent-Pipe II cooler only takes up one slot

Gigabyte is displaying the latest passively cooled ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card. The upcoming GV-RX26T256H pairs the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT with a Silent-Pipe II cooler for silent computing. Gigabyte has opted for a single-slot cooler design, unlike the Sapphire HD 2600 XT Ultimate.

The new GV-RX26T256H features 120 stream processors and 256MB of GDDR3 memory attached via a 128-bit memory interface. Gigabyte equips the GV-RX26T256H with dual dual-link DVI and component video outputs. The card also supports HDMI and 5.1 channel audio with an adapter. HDCP is also supported for high-definition video playback of formats such as Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Expect Gigabyte to launch the single-slot passive ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT next month with the official GPU release.

Well, it will certainly be low power - but the real question is, how much electricity will it use?

I can't tell from the picture how that cooler works... just looks like a vented piece of metal; does anyone see where the heatsink makes contact? Any heatpipes?

This card looks like it has great potential as an HTPC card, as it has Avivo HD playback abilities and you don't have to pay for ATI's codec, unlike Nvidia Purevideo.

However I am curious about one thing, what is the source of the 5.1 Audio through the HDMI output? Will it route motherboard sound through it or do the HD2600XT's have a built in "sound card" type unit for the HDMI audio out?

I'm sure it will be just like my 2900XT. It has built in high definition audio in the video card itself. No other audio device required if using HDMI output.

is there any reviews? or tests with the R600's supposed audio processing ability. id be well interested to see how it stacks up against an X-Fi

This will be a great HTPC card if AMD gets some quality linux drivers that make use of all the video decoders onboard, like S3's Chrome.

ITX or DTX with PCIe and this puppy inside would make me very happy.

Yay, a DX10 card that is passive, has full HDCP support, takes only one slot, AND comes with full hardware x264 acceleration. Now if only I can say the same for AMD's higher end cards (cept lack of passive cooling, if only that was possible now).

I'm hoping that heatsink is not too tall for HTPC desktop cases, like the Antec Fusion/NSK2400.
