Tesla delivers landmark roadster less than a week after opening Munich dealership

Tesla Motors has hit several milestones recently and is rapidly expanding its global presence with new dealerships in London and other parts of Europe. The company has announced that it has hit a delivery landmark for its electric Tesla Roadster.

Tesla has announced that it delivered its 700th roadster with the landmark roadster going to a German law student named Lennart Hennig. Hennig said, "I am a socially responsible consumer who considers the environmental impact of my purchases. As soon as I saw the Tesla web site in 2006, I knew I wanted to support a company dedicated to making more and more affordable vehicles so that mainstream people could have cars with a lower carbon footprint. I plan to drive this car every day so that people can see for themselves that the future of mobility is electric."

The delivery of the 700th Roadster came after the Munich store had been open for less than one week. Tesla is now shipping the Roadster 2 to customers with an array of enhancements over the first car. The enhancements include more powerful heating and AC systems, more comfortable seats, and a more luxurious cabin and dash. The interior of the car is also quieter than previous models. The car can go from 0 to 100 kmh in 3.7 seconds.

Tesla has also recently posted its first profit.

Makes more sense

This kind of vehicle makes more sense in a place like Europe, the public transporation means you can live without a long distance driver much more easily than in the US. Plus gas and diesel prices probably make this more economical than in the US as well.

True, this concept in the US is difficult to implement due to how far people live from work, stores, etc...

For example the US density is 80 people/sq. mile were as the density of Germany is 600people/sq. mile.

Needless to say Americans can't just walk to work or drive there golf cart (whatever battery powered vehicle) like other countries can. I hate when people complain about how lazy Americans drive everywhere. There comparing apples to chickens.

A national average of 80 people/sq. mile covers a wide range of different realities, density varying from 1.2 up to 9600 for the various states, reaching 27,440/sq mi for New York city (with just ~18 million people). Tens of millions of Americans live in dense metropolitan areas called megalopolis.

Roughly 44 million live in the Megalopolis (the multiple metropolitan areas from Boston and Washington, D.C.).

Right, and how many people in New York drive. I don't even know anybody in NYC that even owns a car, and I know dozens of people there.

In a place like that, if you were to get a car, a pure electric or hybrid makes most sense because their shortcomings are shorter.

I don't want to sound rude, but the amount he is paying is better spent for the sake of carbon footprint if he invested all the money into planting a few acres of trees.

I wonder how much carbon footprint the manufacturing of a Tesla leaves.

You are only considering the effect that his own car would have, which is wrong.
He isn't stupid, and knows well that the benefit from a single car is not worth the price that he is paying. But he accepts the fact that he is paying for the R&D and the benefit of cheap future cars based on the same concept. He is supporting progress.

I saw one on the freeway the other day while I was driving through Palo Alto. I didn't realize just how rare they are when I saw it. It's a pretty cool car, but the person driving it didn't seem to care much for it since it looked very dirty and dull.

I think if I paid 100k or whatever for something there were only 700 of in the world I would probably take better care of it than that.

You know, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the person who owns that car reads this article.

There are 4 different colors of the Lotus Elise and a few other Lotus cars in my area... but so far no Teslas.
