The Game Developers Conference 2007 trade show events begin tomorrow in San Francisco
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 2007 Game Developers Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA. The convention has traditionally been known as an annual meeting place for video game developers and the media, with Expo Passes available for a modest sum. Even though most people have told me that the now defunct E3 gaming expo is more enjoyable compared to GDC -- especially for non-game developers, that hasn't dampened my spirits.
Some of the largest and best known game developers and publishers will be present, including Activision, EA Sports, Blizzard, Valve, etc.
While the show's highlights will primarily surround game development and software, hardware companies will be at the event to show their wares. AMD, Intel, AGEIA, NVIDIA, Sun Microsystems, etc. are just a few hardware-oriented companies that will be at GDC.
What am I looking forward to most during GDC 2007? The Wednesday and Thursday keynotes -- Phil Harrison and Shigeru Miyamoto, respectively -- should be enjoyable. I'm also very interested to see what Blizzard Entertainment and Valve are showing, if anything. As an original fan of the video game Fable, I want to see what Lionhead Studios has up its sleeve for Fable 2.
Epic Games is also going to be showing the Unreal Engine 3 in private screenings during GDC, which should be neat. I look forward to getting a glimpse of the new engine.
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a game I am highly anticipating, so I hope that is being shown somewhere during GDC.
On the downside, it appears that Nintendo will not be able to announce anything because of a gag order due to a pending stock trade involving Nintendo and the Japanese government.
