Hard launch

I think all the people who were ranting about how you wouldn't be able to find these cards, or massive price gouging, should eat their words.

Hard launch with WORLD WIDE availability (US, Canada, UK, Europe and I'm assuming Asia/Australia) on the first day, prices relatively close to MSRP, it's pretty impressive.

What ever happened to high end stuff having $300 price tags for new product launches? (reffering to ATi 9700PRO). It wont be long untill a "budget videocard" will cost $350.

And what a sale, these price tags are insane. In Sweden you have to pay a minimum of $800. The market in Sweden is usually more expensive, than elsewhere, but this is still too much for people. The technology is pushing forward in a way which for many people, is out of thier price range. I mean com'n $800!?

That's what you get for having a socialist government.
You pay more for computers, less for health care. It all comes out even in the end.

I live in Malaysia. That's South East Asia for those that don't know. It's available here this morning. 8800GTX at RM2300 (USD621) and 8800GTS at RM1950 (USD530). That's higher than Suggested Retail/Street Price. They were available for ordering through the retail units since the last week of October.

I think the Asus striker link on zzf is premature. its my understanding it wont be available for a couple weeks.

Thank you! This should help quite a few people, supplies are already selling out pretty quickly now.

I sure can't wait to find some US sellers for this puppy: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/8800_Series...

I agree this is very thorough coverage from early benchies to review and store links. good job dt, its really great having one site where i can find links to everything I need (I should click through more adds here to support!:P). although If you didn't cover it thoroughly, you'd be the only site on the net!

When R600 is comming out,

$650 - $700 for the GTX?
By Brandon Hill (blog) on 11/8/2006 7:04:19 PM , Rating: 2
Graphics pushing $700?

After seeing Gears or War on the 360 and what the PS3 has to offer, it's no wonder that consoles games are dominating the retail space.

my sentiments are similar to yours. right now, i'd be loathe to upgrade my vga card at these prices. the only reason i have a 7950GX2 is because of eVGA's step-up program.

The PipeLine!
By Clauzii on 11/8/2006 9:18:07 PM , Rating: 1
The only minus with a Heatpipe like that is that the hotter parts will heat up cooler ones, 'cause they are connected.

Personally I'd prefer "Localized" cooling of components.

Wow! $400 just for a motherboard! Get one of those suckers and the GTX and you're already $1100 in the hole, not to mention that you still need a CPU, RAM, case, ...; you get the picture. I think I'll wait for the 650SLI chipsets to hit the market.

The EVGA 8800GTX Link to newegg goes to the BFG card.. someone should fix that

By greylica on 11/9/2006 9:23:13 AM , Rating: 2
I do not mind with the price Itself. The only thing that is important to me is if it have a great Linux Support and an astounting Open GL velocity to MegaVert Renderization.
DX10 is OK , But Linux is Better than Windows, Ever was.

I Will wait for CEDEGA to adress the DX10 faulting in Linux, and play games if I want. But the primary goal is to verify OPENGL benchmarks to see if the card itself has this quality for me to appease to buy.

LINUX WINNER.

Free yourself and Barbarize, Blenderize.

Asus board at NewEgg as well...

NewEgg has the "mainstream" 680i SLI board in stock for those that don't want to pay the $399 price point for the Striker:
