CompUSA is accepting pre-orders of the BFG Technology GeForce 8800 GTS OC with 320MB of video memory

CompUSA has listed BFG Technologies GeForce 8800 GTS OC with 320MB of video memory for pre-order. NVIDIA add-in board partners were expected to release 320MB video memory-equipped variants of the GeForce 8800 GTS GPU this month.

Unlike vanilla GeForce 8800 GTS-based cards, the BFG Technologies GeForce 8800 GTS OC has a higher GPU-core clock. The GPU core clock is raised to 550 MHz from the stock 500 MHz of 8800 GTS GPUs. Memory clock remains the same at 1.6 GHz though.

The BFG Technologies GeForce 8800 GTS OC has an estimated release date of February 17 this month. Pricing lists at $349.99, $150 lower than a similar GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB-based graphics card.

Not even close to true anymore. Check NE.

Not only are we talking about retail prices, we also have CompUSA in the same sentance.
A friend of mine cried to know that he had spent %50 more than I on his ATI X1950pro 256mb (Best Buy) vs my 1950pro 512mb (Newegg). Such is the nature of convenience...

I hear ya. Did you ever check out Circuit City? They're selling 6600's for $200. People not familiar with the scene get railed.

Wow, I didn't even know that the prices had changed so much on these cards! I went and looked at NewEgg and you can literally buy the 640MB edition (after rebate) for just about the same $350 price. I'm not so sure if people will be willing to shed $50 for possibly hampering future gaming (we don't know whether games like Crysis and UE3-based games will run better with ~512+MB of gRAM)

To follow up Aikouka's post:

eVGA's 8800GTS 640MB is at $389 (newegg), $40 mail-in-rebate; so $360. $10 more for the 320MB ram, and in this case the warranty that covers overclocking (eVGA). I have the GTS 640MB and keep a permanent over clock of 625mhz (normally 500) on the core, and 1780mhz (normally 1600) on the memory, not the slightest problem with stock air cooling. I am an eVGA fanboy thanks to their warranty.

In regards to my previous post, don't do math on hang overs, or type in general: It is a $30 MIR. So only $10 more for the extra 320MB and warranty covering OC.

Benchmarks

So where are the benches? You might get the impression Taiwan doesn't like DT anymore.
