Fujitsu is no stranger to innovative devices and
its latest concept PC is no exception. The company's new Fab PC is simply a
design study, but it uses concepts that may appear in future notebooks.
The Fab PC, as its name implies, uses fabric in its
construction to spice things up a bit. This is quite the departure from most
notebooks today which are constructed mainly of differing grades of plastic. The
use of fabric joins a growing trend to include varying amounts unique materials
including carbon fiber,
leather and
aluminum in high-end notebooks.
The use of fabric also lends itself perfectly to the other
innovative feature of the Fab PC: a flexible e-paper display.
Whereas all other notebooks feature a display screen which is mounted via
hinges to the main system unit/keyboard, the Fab PCs screen swoops down into
the base of the device and then folds over on top of the keyboard when not in
use.
As this is just a concept PC, there are no buzz words like Santa Rosa or Core
2 Duo to throw around, but don't be surprised if something similar shows up
down the road from Fujitsu in a notebook that will surely cross the $2,000 USD
price barrier.
