Highly anticipated Forza Motorsport 2 demo is released

The long-awaited demo to Forza Motorsport 2 has finally hit Xbox Live. The download is a whopping 691MB so you may want to take advantage of the Xbox 360's new background downloading feature to "turn off" your console while the download proceeds.

The demo only allows you to race on a single track, but there will be 24 vehicles at your disposal to test drive. The full version of the game will have over 300 vehicles to choose from... many of which you can see listed over at TeamXbox. There will also be 12 tracks available in the full game (although you can be sure that we will be nickeled and dimed in the future for additional cars and tracks from Xbox Live).

Microsoft Games Studio says that the game will run at a locked in 60FPS and will feature full support for the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel.

I haven't actually gotten a chance to test out the demo yet as my download is going pretty slow at the moment. How about beefing up your server capacity, Microsoft?

Forza Motorsport 2 has already gone gold and is due to be released on May 29 for the sum of $59.99.

This is one game

that i would consider getting a 360 for, if I could afford one. 12 tracks though? Thats not very many. I can imagine getting bored of those pretty quickly. Also what are the physics like? Are they as good as gt4? (i was going to say pgr3 but the way that the grass slows you down on the Nuburgring is utterly crap).

Well, since the physics of GT4 sucked monkey balls, I'd hardly consider them worth comparing to... But, yes, they are better than GT4. Forza 1 blew away GT4 in physics.

As for the tracks, it's 12 tracks but there are multiple versions of the same track, just like GT does. All in all, it's either in the 40s or the 60s (I can't recall right nwo) the total tracks.

you sure about gt4 physics 'sucking monkey balls'? Its just a thought but if you turn of the 'driver aids' its actually really good.

I havent played Forza 1 at all, its just i've never heard anybody say that gt4s physics are crap, indeed, i've heard quite the opposite. As a bit of a racing simulation nut, though, I must say the Richard Burns Rally is one of the most realistic games i've played, even better than Grand Prix 2! :p

I hope they got this right...

The first Forza sucked donkey balls.... Since, I'm not planning on buying a PS3 (yet), I need a good racer to fill my Gran Turismo fetish.

As someone who played every GT extensively, I have to completely disagree with you. GT was the best, but the Forza mechanics are so far and beyond GT, it makes GT feel like Spy Hunter.

Anyway, I just played the demo last night and just about wet my pants. Challenging, gorgeous, and solid. I can't wait to bust out the SRT8 in the full game.

690 MB = One track and a few cars WTF!

Pretty thin for a Demo I think unless I have somehow missed an option to thinker with the cars. Also I do hope the "AI" opponents have been set to hold back since it's not like it was hard to win.

Still it could turn out to be a great game and had I not played the GT concept game on PS3 I might have seen as the best console driving game so far. But unfortunately that GT thing on the PS3 is just so very damn sweet. Anyway I have pre-ordered Forza2 and look forward to some "sim" style racing soon.

I just hope they fix brake discs turning orange BS before the real game. Discs do not glow orange unless they are made of carbon fiber and very few cars have carbon brakes. And also the glow is not even done right as they just show the discs as orange not as actually glowing.

There is no such thing as a carbon fiber rotor for cars, what you meant to say was carbon ceramic rotors. You'll find them on the higher end sports cars. My only problem is that it usually takes a couple laps to warm the brakes up, but my brakes are turning orange going into the first turn? I guess it isn't suppose to be the ultimate simulation, but if it's going to attempt to do something it might as well try to do it right.

You are of course right that it's not just plain carbon it's just how they are often referred to in the sports press.

As you mention you will find them on higher end sports cars and fx. Porsche offers them on the whole 997 range (997 that's the current 911 for any none Porsche nut) and they come standard on the BenzSLR.

I wonder how they show brakes on something like the current top class Le Mans racers? On those cars the brakes are not visible so they better not show orange discs!

Glowing brake discs being done wrong is just a small thing but it bugs me when effects are exaggerated in "sims". It's just like how lots of games had a solar flare effect a couple of years ago - it may have looked cool but in reality it's a lens flare and only something you see with a camera not with your eyes so why put it in a first-person game.

Yeah, I have to go home and play this NOW! I just played around with the new dashboard and VGA features last night (awesome). I also bought Catan (awesome). I can't wait for this! 690MB is all? Sweet! C&C3 was over 1GB...

It wasn't exactly evident, but does the demo also support the racing wheel (the full version was mentioned)? I'd like to fire up that bad boy again ;).

Man, to lose your console to downloading a demo for review has to to suck raw eggs.

I feel for you, Brandon, good luck.

Pity...
