Hands on with the Novint Falcon
A preliminary review of the Novint Falcon is my entry into the second round of FiringSquad's Writing Challenge
Apparently, I made it to the second round of FiringSquad's Writing Challenge.
Earlier this year I got a chance to play with the Novint Falcon, a PC interface device that gives the user three degrees of freedom and tactile feedback.
For those who haven't seen the Novint Falcon, I highly suggest you check out my feedback on the device -- hey, you can vote my entry up while you're there as well!
There are two operations that make the Falcon unique – true three-dimensional
interaction and the feedback. 3D
manipulation can be achieved with other devices on the market, namely optical
pointers, free floating mice. What sets
the Falcon apart from these other devices is the fact that it can also provide
tactile feedback; a task still in its infancy on 2D pointers like mice.
As I mentioned earlier in the first round, any proceeding I might win from the challenge will go to a charity of Dan Turner's choosing (Boys and Girls Club of America).
