Facebook’s new Messenger Platform V1.2 is now available through Facebook’s desktop site and mobile app. This new Messenger release now allows customers to click on ads and interact with retailers when making purchases.

Users are actually guided through the process by chat bots which help with the purchasing details and the processing of payment.  The chat bots communicate customers in real-time eliminating the need for dialogue via a phone conversation or email. All of this can now be done right from Messenger’s Chat Window.

For example, a company like Domino’s Pizza has a chat bot called “Dom” facilitate account setup and pizza from the company’s web portal directly through messenger.

Facebook has claimed that it personal assistant “M” could complete tasks for customers such as make reservations, appointments, and travel arrangements.  M can even make purchases and have gifts delivered.

Facebook is the leader when it comes to social media-based e-commerce.  According to Shopify, almost two thirds of all social media based visitors to Shopify stores come from Facebook and on average 85% of social media e-commerce orders come from Facebook.

Social media e-commerce is growing at a fast pace and many brands are seeking to cash in on sales from the more than 900 million Facebook users. Companies using messenger bots include Domino’s Pizza, Burger King, Uber, and Shopify.
