Panasonic Toughbook  (Source: FCC)
FCC leaks little bits of info on upcoming Panasonic Toughbooks

Careless confidentiality agreements with the FCC leads to leaked images of products, as we've noticed at least more than once.  Notebook giant Panasonic is certainly not exempt from this rule, as demonstrated with three new Toughbook designs.

What information is available in the FCC documents shows that Panasonic is preparing Toughbook models CF-Y7, CF-W7 and CF-T7, certified for sale in the United States.

Public documents show the notebooks will have WLAN, Bluetooth and EVDO modems and that is about it. Images from the FCC tend to be hastily shot, and in this case, the image is a poorly lit picture of the bottom of the notebooks.

From the images of the CF-W7 and the CF-T7, the IMEI number needed for a mobile cellular based broadband modem is clearly seen. No such label appears on the CF-Y7 meaning that particular machine likely will not have a built-in wireless broadband modem. Hard facts will have to wait until the official announcement of the notebooks from Panasonic, which could be any day now.

A new PS3 model that hit the FCC not too long ago and turned out to be the infamous 40GB PS3 model. That was the first time anything near official was known about the lower cost PS3 version, months before any public disclosure.

I dunno about that keyboard of yours. Mayhaps you could petition the Boss Man to spring for a new keyboard or at least some compressed air to clean out the gunk which is keeping your space bar from registering hits.

Open Office is your new friend /laugh/

about the story itself, to me this is one of those *shrugs* so what? who cares? type stories. other laptops out there have the same features so this is not really newsworthy unless they can withstand being run over by a semi truck or soemthing of that nature...

This is probably the Santa Rosa refresh. The panasonic toughbooks trail everyone else by at least 6 months.

Of course that's just another price you pay for a notebook that can be driven over by a truck.

I used to work for a division of Panasonic. The models from a few years ago could be run over by a truck. I've seen one that was dropped from the rear door of a 747, it still worked.

Not here to start an off-topic flame-bout, but having use OpenOffice for a while, and then getting a copy of Office 2007, I can say that I have absolutely no desire to use OpenOffice again.

Vista might suck, but damn is Office 2007 a good product.

Well, yeah, openoffice never really led the way in innovation or new features. I only use it because I can never find the Office installation key!
