EVGA is giving away several of its hot X58 Classified enthusiast motherboards in a special Memorial Day Twitter promotion.  (Source: Anandtech/EVGA)
Company will give away 1 motherboard for every 1,000 people who follow it on Twitter

Motherboard makers, particular those with enthusiast offerings, are always looking for special promotions to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack, and catch customer's attention.  Graphics card and motherboard maker EVGA is looking to do precisely that with its Memorial Day Twitter giveaway.

A blog on EVGA's site details the contest.  Entry is simple -- the first step is to follow "TeamEVGA" on Twitter.  Next you must visit the team's blog post, which can be found here, and type in your Twitter user name and email.  On Wednesday May 27th, 2009 winners will be announced via a special tweet from the team.

In honor of those who served our country and as a thanks to its customers, EVGA will be giving away one enthusiast-ready X58 Classified motherboard per 1,000 new Twitter followers.  Currently 4,000 people have signed up for the promotion.

The X58 chipset is Intel's latest, with support for its new i7 (Nehalem) 45 nm microprocessor.  The chipset also has improved DDR3 support, and support for Nvidia's SLI multi-graphics card solution.

The X58 Classified board from EVGA promises support for all these improvements, plus lots of overclocking support, to help enthusiasts push their systems to the limit.  To learn more about the X58 Classified board, check out Anandtech's excellent review with benchmarks.

Just to be accurate...

This is not THE highly sought after Classified (141-BL-E759) they are giving away. The board they're giving away is their Classified 'value' model (141-BL-E760), which does not boast their PCIe lane improvements.

Overclockers might not care, but to me, the top model Classified with true 3-way x16 SLI is the only reason I was even considering the board. But whatever, a free mobo is a free mobo. I signed up.

You could whine about anything, couldn't you?

Seems simple enough to me, create a new email account for twitter giveaways and stuff and only check it on days you know a contest result is being announced.

Or don't go after free stuff. Better chance for the rest of us.

All of these promotions seem to carry a hidden underlying intent to try and "save" Twitter from falling off the face of the Net. Personally I won't miss it if it goes, but Hell, it only took around five seconds to register there for a chance at the giveaways, and I see no harm in it.

To be honest I wouldn't miss any of them: Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, LiveJournal, etc. Even YouTube and Last.fm. I'm not an insecure or egotistical type, and I don't really give a rat's arse about the daily tribulations of others. They're all like internet soap operas, just scripted in broken, garbage text, saturated by horrendous colors, and backed by god-awful page-embedded music from talentless bands.
