The Dog-e-Minder device
A new pet reminder system for forgetful dog owners

The Dog-e-Minder company today launched the Dog-e-Minder three-button device that makes it easier for dog owners to keep track of several important everyday tasks.

Once attached to a dog's collar, there are only three buttons that offer several different basic functions.  The device is able to easily track when a dog was last walked, fed and received medication -- so the owner no longer has to keep mental track of the activities.   It seems like it's designed for owners who are extremely busy, or have someone else walk their dog for them.

"My family and I are big-time dog people," said Yair Shalev, Dog-e-Minder creator, in a press statement.  "We love our dogs, but we're also really busy, all of the time.  Sometimes we all need a little help in making sure things stay on track.  The Dog-e-Minder is the perfect assistant and reminder 'tool' to make sure our four-legged family members, who rely on us the most, are being taken care of- no questions asked."

The button with a fire hydrant is a reminder for when the dog was last walked, the RX symbol stores medication information and the dog bone tracks feeding information.  The device is "lightweight, waterproof and durable," in case the wearer gets a bit muddy.

I'm not sure of the actual demand of such a product, but it's definitely a curious little device.

The Dog-e-Minder is available now for $19.95 in blue, black, pink and red.  In addition, the company is now offering a buy one get one free promotion for interested customers.

Are you joking? Call a found dog whatever name you want...what's it going to do? Contradict you?

Yep

There is a big difference in reaction between family, stranger and the dog's "people"

To family they are friendly
To stranger they are suspicious or hostile.
To "people" they are extremely friendly and usually do not need to be called by name.

Some dogs do not not fear strangers, but you do not get the "Why did you leave me alone?" reaction to someone they do not know.

People who interact with dogs on a regular basis will watch the dog, not the claimer :)

Dogs might not be that intelligent but they aren't as stupid as you are insinuating either. Ours has been taught to growl and bark at strangers it does not recognize. In fact, we encourage it to do so whenever it sees someone it doesn't know or has met before.

As a result, you could try and walk up to it but I don't think it would be a good idea. Once introduced though, the dog is very friendly to whomever.

I would think that by my username, it would imply that I am in fact a dog owner. I did not insinuate in any way that dogs are stupid. I have had several different breeds over the years, and all of them have shown their smarts in various ways.

However, any vet that I've asked about this specific topic has agreed that it is against the "best practices" to put a dog's name on the collar. I would trust a vet's opinion over a company's opinion any day of the week when it comes to a pet's safety.

You don't spend all of those years (and money) in school to become a vet if you don't love what you do. That's the kind of informed opinion that I want.

Now, anyone here is free to have a different opinion. But, I still am of the opinion that putting a dog's name on the collar is a bad idea.

That's a good way to get the dog euthanized when it attacks the new neighbors across the street.

If you need this, you probably shouldn't be entrusted with a pet's life.

Exactly what I was thinking when reading through this, clearly the inventors aren't 'big dog people' if they need a device like this.

Saves me money by not having to purchase a new tag every time I move. I rent part of a house, and tend to move every other year or so. Already this would have saved me money in the past few years.

Remembering meds and taking walks? Yah that's pretty useless...

They take care of themselves.
