Although Dell's new XPS and Inspiron notebooks are getting
the bulk of the attention, Dell
has also introduced new Inspiron desktops. The desktops have a new
mini-tower design which is 40% smaller than before while still offering excellent
expandability.
Dell's new Inspirons are available with both AMD (Sempron,
Athlon 64 X2 up to 5600+) and Intel (Celeron, Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo up
to 2.13GHz) processors. AMD-based Inspirons uses the NVIDIA MCP 61 chipset
while Intel-based systems use the G33 Express chipset. Graphics duties are
handled by a 128MB ATI Radeon X1300 on AMD systems and the GMA X3000 on Intel
systems.
The new Inspirons support up to 4GB of memory and up to 1TB
of HDD storage when both SATA ports are used. Dell also offers its DataSafe
image mirroring technology and RAID 0 for those that crave a bit more storage
performance.
Optional equipment for the new Inspirons includes an
internal WiFi adapter, 13-in-1 media reader, TV tuner and Creative X-Fi audio
solutions.
Dell gives customers the choice of Windows Vista Home Basic
or Windows Vista Home Premium for their operating system -- Ubuntu Linux is also
available, but is only offered on the Inspiron 530.
Dell's Intel-based Inspiron 530/530s and AMD-based Inspiron
531/531s start at $349 and come with a one-year limited warranty.
