Dell CFO Brian Gladden said in February 2009 that Dell would be expanding its netbook offerings. Dell appears to be making good on that promise. A Dell roadmap has turned up online that shows new netbook systems coming from the computer giant.
If the roadmap proves to be accurate, it shows that the Mini 10 will get some new options on April 17 including a 250GB HDD, Ubuntu, an internal TV tuner, 6-cell battery, a 1.86GHz CPU and something called Picasso covers. On April 20, new options will include 2GB of RAM and a Red variety along with a standard 1024 x 600 LCD.
On May 8, the roadmap has a Mini 10 coming with the codename Bear that offers 802.11a/g/n, optional Bluetooth, 24mm profile, 1.35kg weight, multi-touch touchpad supporting gestures, a 10.1-inch TLF widescreen display, and an optional USB TV tuner.
Other products on the roadmap lacking dates include the Mini 1010 Tiger with Atom Z520/Z5230 CPUs, a magnesium body, 720p HD decode option, HDMI out, and optional gesture touchpad, GPS, mobile TV, and 250GB HDD. The 1010 starting price is $379. Dell is also getting a Mini 1110 Argos ready with an 11.6-inch screen, 2GB of RAM, Windows Vista, and a thin and light design for a starting price of $499.
The last netbook that Dell introduced was the Mini 10 back in February. Dell has reason to offer Ubuntu on other netbooks; it has been one of the few computer makers successful in selling Linux-based netbooks at return rates similar to those of Windows-based machines.
