Dell Latitude Z Front  (Source: Engadget)

Dell Latitude Z Side  (Source: Engadget)
Clear images of the Z series hit the net, but specs are lacking

Typically, when we get images of leaked products they are blurry and you can't really make out any details. Dell's unreleased Z series laptop was leaked today in pictures that are actually clear and you can make out some details.

If the leaker had enough time to take multiple clear images of the Latitude Z series notebook, I'm not sure why they wouldn't have detailed the specs of the machine. All we are left with specifications wise is looking at the rig and drawing some conclusions from the stickers that adorn most Windows notebooks.

Engadget reports that the stickers show the rig will have an Intel Centrino processor and Windows Vista; both of those are really foregone conclusions honestly. Someone other than the person who leaked the photos of the Z series claims that the machine will run an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 15-inch matte finish LCD, webcam with facial recognition, and a DisplayPort.

The Z series is expected to launch in about a week's time and we can get the full specifications them. The rig is thin and from the images, we could be looking at a device that rivals the Adamo in the svelte profile category.

keyboard

Is it just me, or does it look like the keyboard was made tiny for no apparent reason? Look at all that wasted space!

If that truly is a 15in screen then the keyboard looks exactly like a full size keyboard to me. I've got a 14in Latitude E6400 sitting right next to me which I put an external keyboard up to and they keyboards are the exact same size. The extra space on the sides would be because this monitor has a wider screen.

I'm typing this on an E6400 and this keyboard is not full size.

Here is a pic of the E6500, note the keyboard takes up much more space than on the new Z.

Looking at the E6500 and the Z in a side by side, I guess the keyboards look the same size. On the 6500 there are speaker grills taking up that space...

It would be nice

If there was a built-in, slot-loading optical drive option instead of having to use a D bay or E bay or whatever they call it these days.

The overall look is consistent with the latitude E series but I hope it's lighter than the Adamo. The E-4300 is lighter and has a built-in optical drive and more power.

Keyboard note plus another feature

I do service calls for Dell warranty. That is a normal sized keyboard. Those that have mentioned using the E6400, it is the exact same size keyboard. In my travels I encounter alot of different people, including actuall Dell sales reps. One mentioned the Z to me, he's actually demo'd it and named off a few features. Sorry to say I don't remember all that was mentioned, but 1 feature stuck out. If it remember what he said right, it will be able to wirelessly charge. He did not say what the technology of it was, but I would think it may be similar to what Craftsman did a few years ago with some of their power tools. This may be the "wow" factor in this model, not so much looks.

Wireless charging sounds cool. I can think of several pro's for it. For example, instead of the normal wirenest for all your periferials and gadgets, you could just have a charging slate or box where you put your devices that need recharging. Laptops, smartphones, netbooks, wireless mouse, wireless joypads, etc etc.

It has a Centrino processor?

Centrino is a platform, not a processor. There have been various Intel processors listed as being part of "Centrino".
