Starting with Europe, Dell partners with Vodaphone to provide cellular data access to notebook users
Smart phones and ultra-portable devices have been enjoying true wireless
freedom thanks to 3G and other cellular networks, but laptop users have
largely been tethered to a small wi-fi pockets. Some laptop users
have also been using cellular PCMCIA cards that offer connections to
cell phone companies for true wireless computing but until now, no
major attempt at integration between the two has been made.
Dell has announced that it will begin integration of 3G wireless
technology into its notebooks and have them connect to Vodaphone's vast
area support in the region. Available to Europeans, Dell's new notebooks
will be available to customers in Germany, UK, and France. According to Dell, the company is also planning to orchestrate this kind of tight integration of various mobile technologies on a global scale.
