Although Dell is being stingy with
physical specs for its XPS
Next Generation Gaming Concept PC, it does have a flash site
available with a few pictures to whet your appetite. Our very own Michael Hoffman is on the E3 show floor getting a glimpse
of the new system as we speak, but tells us the best images of the
system are on Dell's website.
Dell's site brags of "self-tending"
doors for the optical drive and media bay, aluminum case
construction, high-gloss red or black finish for the front panel and
advanced thermal characteristics among other things (I'm still
scratching my head over the “stabilizing fin”). LEDs litter the construction for some kind of freaky selective lighting.
The majority of the pictures have been darkened out over key areas such as the PCI expansion bay, giving us virtually no indication of what will be under the hood. However, by the mounting of the motherboard its clear that this is a BTX chassis. Looking very closely, it's also possible to see a single Firewire, a single Ethernet and six USB inputs -- but take such specifications with a grain of salt; Dell doesn't even have a name for this monster yet.
It's kind of hard to get excited over a
pretty box when there are no specs attached to it. How about giving a
us a little hint, Dell? And hopefully, this won't be another exercise
in "How expensive can I make a gaming PC?" like the XPS
600 Renegade. Dell continues to produce ultra high end XPS systems even though the company recently bought the Alienware brand to handle the high end.
When Dell announced the XPS 600 Renegade, NVIDIA simultaneously announced Quad SLI. NVIDIA's Quad SLI 7950GX2 is due later this month, so don't be surprised if the announcement of this next generation XPS and NVIDIA's next generation Quad SLI coincide.
